So many to choose from and I dont know why but I have always like this one in particular...

I think there is something to be said for its simplicity.

Take away my pain

There is some tasteful playing on the Explorers Club album by Mr Petrucci.

You should listen to that if you haven't heard it already. The most tasteful solo off the new album is easily in Breaking all Illusions, but his best tone was definitely on SDOIT to my ears (although I really dig the tone on the LTE Live in LA dvd)

I liked that solo better when it was "Under a Glass Moon"

Ditto that. Glass Moon has always been my favorite Petrucci solo.

My favorite lead playing and lead tone from John is on 6 Degrees Of Inner Turbulence.

.....and my to me his playing ever is from 23:07 - 26:00.

Man, he had some great tone on that record! And, I've always loved that spot from 23:07 - 26:00 myself.....sweet fuckin' tone, with JP playing some nice, bluesy bits...very tasty. I can skip most of that song, but gotta listen to that ending solo!

I agree! What was his amp or amps of choice for this record?

I think he used his MarkIIC+'s for his lead tones?

My choice would be "Another Day" (3:00) ... as almost everything from
the " Images&Words" Album.

Also liked some stuff from "Awake", I could sit there for hours
and listen to the "Scarred" Solo (08:15)
