I would bet Huey has been with them a lot longer than 20 years. Word is that he played the bass on all the early records, because he was a much more solid player than Alec. When Alec was dismissed, they asked Huey to step in to take over live bass as well.

You're right...I meant touring. He started around 95

Here they are on Ellen today doin' this country-poppish tune. Friedman is pretty clearly in view.
Why the F are they doin' a close-up on Jon strumming while Phil is rockin' the solo?

Why is it that the originals have such a hard time singing the original versions of their songs? Even in a lowered key. I suppose it's just a pet peeve, but when I see a vocalist doing that whole -I'll sing the verse and the low part of a chorus-' thing, it still just takes the wind right out of my sails when it comes to their live show.

Yeah, I know what you mean. JBJ's been doin' this for a while. You can tell he's using some "trained" vocal technique and of course the dodging strategies you mentioned to preserve his voice. I think I remember reading a while back that he blew his voice in the 80's just singing balls out every night and that he learned his lesson.
I just saw Sebastian Bach perform with Steve Stevens a couple weeks ago. He still has some good high notes but he picks and chooses where. He pretty much alters the melody to "I Remember You" now which like you said takes the wind of the sails.
Only guy from that era that comes to mind that still hits his stuff as good as ever is Michael Sweet of Stryper.

Because, outside of guitar players, nobody knows or cares who Phil X is when Bon Jovi is on the stage.

How long have they been playing with that other backup guitarist? Who is he? He seems a bit out of place with them.

The other guitar player is Bobby Bandiera...a jersey shore guy...played with Southside Johnny for awhile. He's been on the last 4 or so tours with them.

.

Wow, I used to watch Bandiera in clubs 20 years ago. Back then he seemed like an old club veteran.
