Went on Fretted American's YT channel a little while ago and they have some clips of Phil on tour with Bon Jovi.

His tone was fat and cutting and low and behold there's a BE100 sitting right behind him. Sort of nestled in there; but it's visible (off to his left).

Band sounds great and although the quality overall isn't the greatest; it's still articulate.

Living on a Prayer

Whole Lotta Leavin' (Solo Only)

Keep The Faith (Solo Bit Only)

Not a huge Bon Jovi fan, but the energy is there and I'd go see them for that alone.

Phil gets it done and then some, amp sounds fantastic.

that phil x and his facial expressions...

even going through what looks like a friedman 2x12, towel looks like its covering up the logo

Pretty sure he's using Richie's BE100 rig. Sounds great!

He was ripping it up for sure!!
Putting a little energy behind the playing.
Loved it.

Why is it that the originals have such a hard time singing the original versions of their songs? Even in a lowered key. I suppose it's just a pet peeve, but when I see a vocalist doing that whole -I'll sing the verse and the low part of a chorus-' thing, it still just takes the wind right out of my sails when it comes to their live show.

Here they are on Ellen today doin' this country-poppish tune. Friedman is pretty clearly in view.
Why the F are they doin' a close-up on Jon strumming while Phil is rockin' the solo? Anyways... super happy for the guy.

How long have they been playing with that other backup guitarist? Who is he? He seems a bit out of place with them.

Yeah, I know what you mean. JBJ's been doin' this for a while. You can tell he's using some "trained" vocal technique and of course the dodging strategies you mentioned to preserve his voice. I think I remember reading a while back that he blew his voice in the 80's just singing balls out every night and that he learned his lesson.
I just saw Sebastian Bach perform with Steve Stevens a couple weeks ago. He still has some good high notes but he picks and chooses where. He pretty much alters the melody to "I Remember You" now which like you said takes the wind of the sails.
Only guy from that era that comes to mind that still hits his stuff as good as ever is Michael Sweet of Stryper.

Funny enough, it wouldn't matter, as JBJ is actually playing the exact same lines at Mr. X. Jon could be playing a Variax for all we knew.

Same reason Michael Jordon isn't throwing down dunks ;)

Hey, I am pretty much thinking that it is REALLY great to see them touring. I doubt if JBJ needs the cash, but who knows. As was mentioned, JBJ has been kickin' ass for a long time and has learned how to sing for a WHOLE tour.

That said, I hope I get a chance to see them. I am sure that Richie is missed, however I wish Phil X all the best, he deserves it...and is playing great! The band sounds good from what I am hearing in these clips.

Great songs, "classics" now, that people like to hear. I bet it's a great show.

The other guitar player is Bobby Bandiera...a jersey shore guy...played with Southside Johnny for awhile. He's been on the last 4 or so tours with them.

I'm thinking they aren't showing Phil much out of respect for Richie. Hell, they never show Hugh, the bass player, and he's been with them since around '95.

Phil could probably hit those high notes hes got a great rock voice

what bass player :D . From what I understand Hugh was actually on some of the early recordings from when Alec was the bass player officially?

They dont even list the bass player as a part of the band I think. He's like a hired hand for them.

That's my point! He's been a hired hand for over 20 years and is never shown. Phil has "filled" in for parts of 2 tours now so he won't be shown much either.

Except Jon's got Phil right out front putting on a show for the tour. I don't think there was any "out of respect" in the camera angles for the Ellen show. The band is called Bon Jovi, Jon appeared to be playing the same lead Phil was, and it looked like a typical talk show live camera shoot to me. I've seen plenty of shows where the guy playing lead doesn't get a close up.

^ This...

I would bet Huey has been with them a lot longer than 20 years. Word is that he played the bass on all the early records, because he was a much more solid player than Alec. When Alec was dismissed, they asked Huey to step in to take over live bass as well.
