I like a Sovtek LPS in my Bogner stuff, and have been using one in my IIC+. Today I put a SH-12ax7A (Shuguang?) in the PI and it was wonderful. Not as tight as the LPS, but smooth, really clear, and had some extra give. Felt free. Love it. What are some PI tunes that people like, and why?

Try a 5751 in the PI of the IIC+. Then try a 5751 in V1 and PI.

Will do! Does the 5751 tighten it up or lend to an ‘easier’ feel? I tend to shoot for the easy playing variety...because I suck!

I've had 4 C+, and like many vintage Mesas they really like the Chinese 8th gen 12ax7 or the Military version 6N4. They originally came with Tungsrams so I usually put a mix of Chinese and Tungsram in, and the PI in mine have responded well with the Tungsrams. V1 will shine with any vintage pre but after all the tube rolling I still like the 6N4 in best..over Mullard, Amperex, Tungsram etc.

It helped reign-in the preamp a bit, and yeah... you could describe it that way. The best IIC+ I ever owned was a 1x12 blond 60 watt combo with no EQ. Why I sold that amp, I have no %$#@ing idea? Stupid!

The new JP amp looks nice, but I'd rather have a proper IIC+ with 'pull deep' option.

In general people regard the LPS as the best tube for PI spot in most amps. I have several LPS tubes and I try them in all my amps. I almost always prefer something else because the LPS adds a stiff and dry response I don't care for. Usually I end up with a Chinese 9th or something similar in the PI.

My hearing must absolutely suck. I could barely tell the difference between a IIC+ and a III, let alone what a phase inverter tube change would do to one.

fatbagg, your subject is "PI tube for most bounce/give/loose feel?" and you are using a IIC+! In my mind, that IIC+ is bad to the bone out the box as good as it gets. Maybe I'm mistaken but I've heard some awesome clips from member "danyeo" here demonstrating his Mesa Rig and it was very rich. You might want up hit him up too.

It’s amazing! Feels great no matter what is in it, but Um just always looking to tailor further and fine tune. It had a Sovtek LPS in the PI, which is great, but the Shuguang in that spot gives the amp a more free feel and stays clean and put together. I was just curious more than anything.

Quiet, but here’s the amp dialed in currently.

I've had the exact same experiences...I prefer a 9th gen in the pi in my Friedman and an RFT in my Monomyth

Yea, in the Bogner stuff that LPS is awesome. In the IIC+ I love the Shuguang/Chinese.

FB - I'm sure glad that you posted that clip. I see your issue as clear as the hairs on your noggin there. The Mark isn't your GAS circular firing squad fidget-feeder. You should get yourself a custom super-duper Ed Roman Centurion axe from hell and your golden brother man from a younger mother! ;) :D

 LOL! Enjoy my friend and I know I'm preaching to the quire but try not to acquire too much GAS around here because it's so easy. It's not fatal, but it'll cost ya. :)

Almost as LOL as preaching to the "quire".

OP: As far as looseness, or bounce in the PI, I'd try a JJ ECC83S. Definitely one the warmest out there.

All aside, "napalmdeath". Way cool Moniker brother … and particularly aromatic early in the morning. :poke: :)
