For the last 3 yrs or so, I've used jazz III's. Then today I found an old pick in my duffle bag that I forgot was there.

Turns out to be a dunlop stubby 2.0mm. Size wise, just about the same as the III's, but much more mass... over 1.0mm more.
I enjoyed playing with it all day since I found it.

More control, more mass so its less tinny feeling. Considering getting a pack of them to try out for a month so see if I want to change over.

What widths, brands you guys using? Anyone have the same experience going from thin to more mass ?

I absolutely love Gravity picks. Main go to is the classic pointed in 1.5 mm

If I can remember the make, I will chime back in, but I got a few 3 packs of these heavy gauge picks that have a hand honed edge to them, and they are amazing. A little pricey but the edge is hand feathered down to a sharp edge. Really nice.

I've always used the Dunlop Tortex. Used the green .88 for a long time then switched to orange.

Started using the Jazz 1.25mm and loved them.

Just ordered a winspear pick because it's sort of like those high dollar plectrums but was on sale and under $10.

Figured I might as well try it out. Sadly I have been waiting over a month for the damn pick to arrive.

Tried everything always come back to tortex Jazz 3. Like different thicknesses for different things.

Eric Johnson Jazz III.
His name is lifted and adds grippy goodness.
I love the black Petrucci Jazz III as well. Gloss with a little brighter tone. Fantastic.

I have an in-tune endorsement so I use their jazz picks... Basically the same thing as the III but a little TINY bit bigger. Feels more comfy on heavy handed rhythm stuff and it's delrin like the Dunlop tortex stuff. 1.0mm for me, stiff enough for control and still slides off the strings good.

Talking about picks is like opening up a can o' worms haha! Like women and shoes.

I use the 1.5 mm tortex gator grips. Can get quite a lot of timbres and tones out of it. Also really like the Gravity Razors....lost them though, dammit. $5 a pick is a little steep for me. Used the jazz 3's for awhile but just started to hate them after I switched to the normal sized Tortex pick. Would never go back.

2mm white tortex sharps. Never flex, sharp tip allows quick and accurate picking patterns, and the squared off side profile grips the string for a certain scrape/growl as it passes the wind of the string.

I really like the green .88mm Tortex Jazz III XL picks. I could never bond with plain tortex because they arent sharp enough but the sharp tortex are too sharp. The Jazz III had the sharpness I wanted but were too thick and small. The Tortex Jazz III XL is perfect if you want the Jazz sharpness but in bigger size with more options on thickness. Havent seen them in any stores though so I ordered the bulk bag on amazon.

Ill look into these. I didnt think that I would like the 2mm, but I havent put it down since yesterday. Liking it so far.

after trying about 25 different picks i wound up right back to my black Jazz III's

I have tried and tried to like the Jazz III picks but I always end back with a regular Fender Heavys..

I use the Dunlop jazz iii xl ultex sharp, haven't looked back since switching.

Another plus on tortex is you don't really hear the pick which i prefer. Plus they feel natural in your hand and are cheap. I can only play jazz III sharps. Would not even consider playing a full size pick anymore. You can also sharpen them on the carpet!

What is it you guys like about sharp picks? I can never get along with them.
