Picked up a Suhr ISO box.

I picked one of these up a couple of weeks ago. Made my awesome rig sound even better with W/D/W. Just amazing

Sure seems like a pretty high price for that Suhr box considering you could have done the same thing with $8 worth of parts and a soldering iron...

Maybe you can do this, however I cannot and do not have the desire to do so. I have too many other things I would rather be doing.... But looks like you will not be needing one.

Steve, have you opened one up? Just curious what is inside, as I haven't.

The Suhr box is transformer isolated though, and has a ground lift switch. So you wont have any troubles with ground loops. You dont have that luxury with a standard lineout installed on the amp, as far as i know.

Either way i think im gonna install that lineout you mentioned Steve, in my Cameron Jose! I dont have the spare cash to buy a Hotplate or Lineout box right now!

I got one too and used a couple of Tech 21 1x12 power engines on each side of my Bogner 2x12 for w/d/w set up and it works great. When I get my Ecstasy I probably wont even use the loop unless its a small gig where I dont want to take the 1x12's. What I like about it is you are getting the tone after the post phase so if you are running it hard you get that break up too and not just the tone with a line from the pre amp. I also like the ability to use the groud lift if I run into ground loop issues. Nice piece and I think its worth the money IMHO.

I opened it up. It is built well. There is a sealed metal box inside on the board that I coulnt figure out.

Steve, why dont you start making them and selling them? You see the upside money potential... Heck, how about drawing a simple layout and post it in this thread?

I posted complete detailed instructions in another thread on how to turn a speaker out into a line out. This is a power amp (post PI) line out. Here is a link (the instructions are near the bottom):

Line Out Thread

BTW - I didn't mean to be an ass about this and I'm sure that is how it came off so I apologize for that. I'm just amazed that Suhr is charging that much for this box. It may well be "transformer isolated", etc..., however, I'm getting great results with a line out that cost me $8 and some solder. Honestly, I probably would have bought one of these too if I had an amp that needed it if I didn't learn a bit about amps and know how easy this is. Also as Ed D pointed out if you have ten amps that don't have line outs, this is probably a good way to go rather than modding all of them... Also, with the mod I posted, you lose one speaker out (I don't care, because I don't need two). Of course it would be pretty easy to drill and put in another output jack...

You should see the price for a Two Rock buffered loop rack thingie if you want to crap, around $2000 so you can get better tones from your $5000 TR :scared:

Steve,

This is a great opportunity for you to make and market your own box and charge $50-$100 for it.

Only charge me $25 for the idea...

All kidding aside, I think there is an opportunity here to make something usefull.

I think so to and you pretty much beat me to the punch with your thread.
Johh Suhr is a master at marketing stuff but his stuff is always way to expensive IMHO (not a dig on John because he deserves to get it if people are willing to shell out the cash!!)

I think this would be a great opportunity to put out a quality product that wont break the bank. I can't see it being a huge seller as not many guys like to slave there amps these days but it would definitely be worth looking into and competing if you know what I mean ;)

I agree..but if it is cheap enough, people will buy it "just to have around". $30-50 is easily justifiable.

I would like to see one that can actually boost the signal as well.

Can you point me to line out box that you put in line with the cab that has a level, ground lift. phase switch, has no cab sim and is wired for balanced or unbalanced that cheaper?

No, but I can point you to a guy who could build you one for $50. That's the point we are making. ;)

Well wouldnt that mean you could point me to one cheaper? :D And since this guy you know doesnt make his name known and put any of the boxes out there for sale.. this was my only choice for a piece that had only what I wanted.

Steve I did not take your comments as negative. I hope mine did not come across that way either. I had read your one post on the modification and I did not want to modify my amp, it is way to expensive of an amp for me to be tinkering with IMHO. Plus the mod may or may not decrease the amps overall value. I was quite happy to pay for the box from Suhr and I would have been quite happy to purchase a more inexpensive one as noted on the forums as long as it did the job. As Hacksaw said my rig sounds Huge now, just freaking Massive so the money spent on one piece of the chain was more than well worth it.

Just my .02
