Shit people if you can find a unit like this that fits your needs for $50 then use but for those of us who found the other features very usful that arent on the $50 boxes then why in the hell would you care how much I spend on it???

However, I was trying to point out that for the features you really need, you could build a box to do the same thing for less than $25, thus $180 for that box seems pretty high to me. Totally John's prerogative to charge this much and I do own other Suhr products, I just think this one misses the mark price-to-value wise... You don't need the polarity switch (can't think of one good reason), "transformer isolation" (whatever that is??), unbalanced/balanced operation (can't see why it is useful in this implementation), or a ground switch (once again - I can't see why this box would induce hum when I never have that problem with an installed line out?). What you do need to make a good adjustable level line out box is a small metal box, a few resistors, a potentiometer and 3 jacks. It is a simple circuit.

I point this out so that if someone else needs something like this and they have a soldering iron, they may want to give it a try themselves, especially since I gave complete instructions to do it rather than paying a lot of money for features they will never use....

Transformer isolation isolates the ground from the common ground with a 1:1 transformer (like a good DI box).
Perfect against ground loops. If you are using one, a ground switch is part of it.
I don't get a polarity switch either though. The signal off the OT is AC, so several Hz or 1/s. Sounds like voodoo to me.

I guess I've just never run into ground loop problems with a line out and wouldn't want to pay the extra money...

I run into this ALL the time. That said there have been plenty of times when a ground lift helped but was not enough.

With bigger setups like 2 or three amps, load-boxes and some fx you can run easily into ground loops. A lift is nice, a line-isolation-transformer (Palmer) very helpful too. Thats also a simple 1:1 transformer at 10k (not 600 Ohm). Lehle f.i. uses special mu-metal shielded high impedance (for guitar signal thats why) in all of his units.

Interesting, but my line out is tapped off my first speaker out, replacing the second speaker out... so I'm always going to be at 16 ohm since I only have 16 ohm cabs and always set the switch to 16 ohm. I'd have to make a change to where I tapped in... Sounds good as is though...

I bet most people paying $180 for the Suhr box are not using crazy complex setups where this would be applicable. Just a guess...
