Looking for something tight, thick, and clear for my Caparison. Mahogany body, bolt on maple neck, ebony board, 12-56 gauge strings, C tuning. Will be playing through a 5150 and a Bogner cab with V30's. Please say which you would choose and why. I'm leaning towards the Duncan Distortion or L500XL at the moment...

You know my vote. I want you to try a BL. It's not thick, so you'll have to rely on your amp/guitar to make up for it. Thick = less tight.

Hmm, well the 5150 is plenty thick. You think it will be best for low tuned melodic death metal?

I too went for the BL. I want to get a Flying V and put one of those in the bridge.

How are the mids on that pickup? Duncan's website rates the Distortion as an 8/10 in mids, and the Full Shred a 4/10.

It's mid boosted. I'd say a 6-8 as a guess. High mids and highs. Lower low end.

well... its not f-spaced... but i'd sell it for like $45ish shipped...

well, it'd technically work... its just that the polepieces wont line up perfectly... i don't know how old it is... it was in my 80's ibanez... i switched it cuz i actually prefer EMG's...

What's the difference then between it and the F-Spaced version if both work? :?

it just looks nicer f-spaced... and is techically more better (i know) as teh string vibration put it over the polepiece more... bah... they sound the same...

Hmm, alright, I'll consider that then...

No love for the Full Shred in the poll though? :?

ive heard from my friend that the full shred is a good pu.

I'm thinking since the 5150 is so mid heavy, a pickup like the Full Shred might work well...

That's why I'm opting for the Steve's Special. Why not a Duncan Custom, IMO its pretty scooped and very clear/tight. Maybe a little bright for the 5150 though. The Custom 5 is even more scooped and has a rounder/darker vibe going on, but its Alnico 5 and lower output (maybe not a bad thing for the 5150). Just my 2 cents.

Dunno, I started a thread the other day and I picked out the 4 pickups I saw mentioned the most. I'm really curious about the Full Shred...I just have a good feeling about it?
