I have a Duncan Distortion in my Viper and it kills. I have a BL L500XL on it's way to go in my other Viper (which currently has a JB in it).
 
You should check out Lundgren as well, pricey but he will customize them for your gear / ear. They sound close to 81s but better IMO, perfect for Metal. I am hoping to try some BK nailbombs in my JP sometime soon.

Any chance of some coparison clips when you get that BL?
 
From what I have gathered that the BL is kinda like a JB but tighter and clearer.
 
I would go with the Duncan Distortion. Very tight sounding but can also sound loose
 
i'm an emg guy all the way...BUT i hate their passives. so when i bought a passive for my kramer baretta, i went with the l500xl. i got it cheap as hell on ebay and i think it's awesome...even tho i'm probably ALOT less picky than you. :mrgreen:
 
None of the above... go with a Gibson 57 Classic

Actually I retract that. I remember you were going for something passive with EMG features but still natural. I had a Bareknuckle Nailbomb and that really fits the bill. Natural but still extremely tight yet organic, and it cleans up well too.
 
Out of those I'd choose the Warpig, but if you want something cheaper then the SD Custom is awesome.
