I'm looking into doing a pickup swap on my Peavey Wolfgang. The tuning will be drop c running through a Rhoads Colossus. Fast tracking riffs Looking for clarity and something where the low end holds together but is still percussive. My initial thoughts are low to medium output pickups like the Dimarzio 36th Ann. or BK VHII's.... Would love some input. Thanks

If you are looking for clarity, you cannot go wrong with the BKP line. Perhaps the Juggernauts?

Jup The BKP Juggernauts are awesome, sounds like these are what you're after.

BKP is where it's at right now. Im found of the War Pigs myself.

BKP Miracle Man
Wolfetone BlisterBucker
SD Distortion

I don't know a ton about Peavey Wolfgang's, but I imagine there's several models and years and such, what are the specs on yours? mainly body wood, top, neck and fretboard materials.

WCR Ironmans are excellent pickup as well as some others. They are not cheap though but were worth it to me.

Painkiller
C-pig
Black Winter

Black Winter's are much more than what they are marketed as. Very versatile pickup.

Dimarzio Titan!! Or Juggernaut, both great for heavy modern metal!

nailbomb but you haven't given us much to go from... what are you into?

Lundgren m6. I put one in my Japanese soloist and it kills. Just clear, punchy and tight, tight. If you're tuning low, ya don't want a pickup with a big low end. Having said that, the m6 just has a brutal chug in the low end without being bloated. I have a dinky and a charvel 3dr, one has a black winter, and one a nazgul. Both are also great metal pups, but I grab the one with the m6 first.

Painkiller or SD Nazgul would be cool. Both work well with my Gemini. Haven't tried other of the BKPs listed

If you are considering Dimarzio 36th anniversary. You may want to look at Surh Thornbucker +. I have one in a LP and it sounds great for what you are looking for.

lundgrens are great but OP they have a very distinct lundgren sound. i am awful at describing tones, but they have this kinda of honking, chirping presence. it's not a bad sound at all, it cuts through like no other, and has tons of clarity at high amounts of distortion, but in a blurry of notes that prominent midrange can kind of sound... weird, for lack of a better adjective. like, there's clarity but all that honking character gets annoying and almost muddy, in a strange way, for certain kinds of riffing. i dug my lundgrens for some riffs, but once i really became conscious of that midrange character, it was difficult for to un-hear it and let to me looking for a more versatile pickup. i guess their fault is sounding almost too modern and kind of specific. just a different strokes for different folks situation.

Some of the new Fishman fluence models sound killer. Someone just posted a vid with the kse and for modern metal it was great.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I bought a Juggernaut over the weekend. Should be here by the end of the week hopefully! I will report back.

I’ve liked what I’ve heard of the Fluence KSE pups quite a lot. Excellent for modern metal.
