Played a Suhr guitar today with the Nickle covered Aldridge pickups in it.........
WOW! Had way more BITE and Growl then my EMG's.....
what other pickups are comparable?? Like in the Duncan or Dimarzio range?
Or are these pickups in a league of their own?
Sounded freaking awesome!!!

Start with the Motor City Solution, your quest just might end there. The vibe of the EMG without any of the drawbacks. Your VH4 will pay you back in spades for it.

Similar thing happened to me a couple of years ago after almost a decade of using EMGs. They just sounded...sterile, less organic than some of my friend's similar guitars to mine w/passives. I used Duncans as a kid, went back to them, never looked back.

I do hear good things about Motor City Pickups...and the Aldrich pickups kick ass too, I've heard those...

Have an Aldrich that I first used in my previous S3, which now sits in a Musikraft san dimas clone. Awesome, awesome pickup! I've been thinking about trying other pickups lately, though. But I'd have to get a second guitar, need to do an A/B-comparison to make sure I don't fool myself

yeah ok, your not sold on anything!

My advice is try the Aldrich first since you like it so much already, then we both know you'll try about 300 other boutique pickups until you settle on the one for you.

I saw a couple of Motor city pickups here on the classifieds for a good price.
I am not really into pickups.
Too hard for me to get them installed. I have to $$$ for that.
I been the EMG guy for the longest....
