I'm looking for a pickup to liven up my explorer. I'm thinking bkp painkiller? I have no experience with that pickup. Any suggestions?

easiest would be to stick with EMG or Blackouts, so maybe try a Het?

I had a dead guitar with EMG's way back and a 60 sounded best but wasn't hot enough, so ended up with an 85.

I tried a het in there but no dice. School me on the blackouts. I read somewhere the mick Thompson pu has more highs?

Fluff is probably the one to ask about the Blackouts vs EMG.

For my ears they aren't too much deferent than EMG, maybe more scooped with more lows and highs, but not as much mids.

If the Hets weren't a little brighter, you may have to go passive, or give up on it?

FYI I have a Mick Thompson set NIB, i'd deal on, also what I think is just a regular Blackout bridge that's used. Could let you try the bridge for shits and grins if you want?

Shoot Tim at BK an email. He will know which one will do it for you, Are your volume and tone pots 500k? That might be your issue if they are 250.

25k I guess. It's wired for actives.

$130 shipped for the NIB Mick set, or $40 shipped for whatever bridge I've got.

I had a dead sounding LTD that I put an 81x in that helped a lot but it never really sounded great. The problem I had is that the guitar sounded muted even unplugged... Bad wood.

My bad one is an LTD also!

This guitar is a custom shop ESP if it matters.!.?!.?

Bad wood. All the electronics changes in the world won't fix it if my experience is anything to go by
