Anyone have a Korina guitar and can recommend some pickups? It's a set neck Korina body/neck with rosewood board. I have a Duncan Custom SH-5 in the bridge currently and it sounds great, but not knock-your-socks-off great. Something fairly versatile...I play anything from blues to 80's metal to modern metal. I understand Korina is similar to Mahogany, but a bit more middy...I was thinking about throwing in a set of Aldrich pups. What do you guys think?

i love my prs kl1812 with the 57/08 pickups. they seem close to sd antiquity hbs. clean up nice when rolling back the volume, but can straight kick it when played through a modern gain amp.

Mahogany is more resonant and thicker in the lower mids, Korina is more resonant and lively in the upper mids and is somewhat lacking in the lower mids. I can't state a specific pickup, but definately choose one that would help beef up the lower mids more.

My Duncan Distortion loaded Korina Warmoth LP sounds redonkulous!

that's EXACTLY where the Custom is lacking now that you mention it

Please consider the Suhr DSV (low output) or the DSV+ (low to medium output) The dual screws tame the upper mids and the low output give more clarity on the low end. I have a DSV+ in my Mohagany/Maple Suhr and it is perfect. In my Korina Suhr I have a SSH, but it also has a little too much in the upper mids, so I am going to change it to a DSV.

Ya Man, Just put a Duncan Dist in my LP...It freakin kills  Sounds awesome ...Great pickup for sure!!!

Gibson 500T! Sound great in the Korina Explores, and versitile IMO.

+1 for the 500T
BKP nailbombs, holydivers or maybe even warpigs may also suit

Would you consider those to be versatile? Not arguing, trying to learn mor about BKP. I'm looking for new pickups for my Les Paul

What about a DSH+? The dual screws would still help tame the upper mids, but I'd still get the higher output.

I have a JB in my Warmoth Korina superstrat. Awesome. I tried the following Duncan's in it before getting there: '59, Custom 5, Custom, C/C, Dimebucker, Distortion. Also tried a Dimarzio Tone Zone.

You know, I have one of those. I'll swap it today and let you know, but to tell you the truth, I used to be a high output pick-up guy, but the clarity of lower output pick-ups have swayed me in that direction...

I tried it this weekend, but went back to the SSH. The DSH+ sounded great, but it doesn't clean up as well when you roll down the volume knob. For now, I will leave the DSH in there because it gives me a great old school LP type tone, vs. the mellower tone of my Maple/Mohagony Suhr loaded with the DSV+

I'm seeing quite a few JBs listed here as well. Just curious as to whether you guys like the JB in other guitars or just in your Korina? I've NEVER liked that pickup in ANY guitar I've tried it in...but maybe it works in Korina? If I have one laying around in the parts bin, I might try it...but I don't know that I can bring myself to buy one again after all of those failures. :scared:

fusionbear: Thanks for the update! I've actually had more luck with moderate output pickups as well, so I don't know why I had it in my head that I needed high output. I may give the DSV+ a go.
