Just picked up a sunburst Standard, I think an 07' or 08' with a 60's neck. I think it has Burstbucker Pro pickups. It's much mid rangier and brighter then my other Standard (Duncan Custom5 in bridge) and Special (all mahogany). It's kind of what I need, so I like it being snottier sounding, kind of has a Slash sound.

What's the bomb pickup for that sound?

Is there something better then the Burstbucker Pro? Which? Why?

PAF, JB, Burstbucker 1 etc...?

I think Slash uses Duncan Alnico II Pros but I may be wrong.

I think he does as well. The Gibson Classic 57's should be able to get that one too.

Thanks

Yeah I think that's what he uses. How do the Burstbucker Pros compare to the Burstbucker 1's?

The Classic 57+ is light years ahead of the BB Pro as far as tone goes IMO.

and these are light years ahead of the 57's - no contest

either the Dr. V's or the Marshallheads.

For reference to Mr. Lugo : My Dr. V loaded Les Paul R0 into my Dave Freidman modded 76' JMP (Custom 45 / Brown Eye mod) is eargasmic....

Thanks guys, yeah I think I'm gonna replace the BB Pro's, sound a little single coilish to me.

Suhr Aldrich. Make it happen. :rawk:

That's the badboy huh?

Is it hotter output then the BB Pro?
Yes, quite a bit hotter. It is characteristically similar to the JB, but a little hotter, little fatter, little bit more of everything, and also....they rock!

Check out Motor City pickups. Try the new Rokweiler pickup. Its not listed on the site but its a blackbelt with a hotter wind and a alnico 5 mag f'n huge sounding for a Paul or you could just try the Blackbelt. Or if you want hot and heavy then the afwayu is the ticket. Give wade a call and talk with him. Dave Friedman

Thanks Dave. I'm using your modded Marshall everyday. When some the records get released I'll get you some copies. I love that amp!

I found WRC, I love the clips. What's a good model for hard rock?

The godwood seems like the ticket.

james i dont think the goodwood would have the bite youre after. its a very sweet pickup. i can also vouch for the suhr aldrich.. but i cant tell you how it would fare against the other reccos on this thread.

I'd either put Bareknuckle Steve Steven's Rebel Yell pickups in it (which is in my LP, and it KILLS) or a set of Motorcity Pickups Afwayus set. Both have the option of getting a calibrated set. I had the Afwayus in my LP, but I like the BKP Rebel Yell's a bit more. They fucking kill!

Totally will get you that "Slash" vibe. Amazing set of pickups!

Eric
