Piezo speakers with guitar amps

I've been developing my own Leslie Speaker project, by fitting a piezo speaker to my Marshall cab. It has an in-built 800Hz crossover and can handle up to 400 watts, I think, at least 200 watts.

I asked someone about this, and he was scared that I'd blow up the amp, so strongly advised to hook up the speaker output of the amp to a load (e.g. THD Hotplate), and run the piezo speaker in parallel to it.

But, I went ahead and connected the piezo speaker straight to the amp's speaker output, and had no problems at all!! I used the two 16 ohm outputs- one speaker output to one 2x12 cab, the other to the piezo.

So, why did I receive that advice? And even though my amp appears to be ok, will continued use of this setup create a problem?
