I feel the same way about PRS's. I wanted to like them...they're beautiful, but they never felt good at all  I also like the volume knob and pup selector to be in a more comfy and speedy placement

I never played a McCarty though

All McCarty's come with the wide fat neck which will feel small after you've played a set with your R8.

Hey Chris, have you played a singlecut 245?

Nope, I sure haven't. I did play a beautiful flametop red single cut from before they started making that 245 model. It was beautiful, but sounded absolutely HORRIBLE.

I understand the 245 is 24.5" scale like a Gibson, though, so I assume it's a different animal.

PS - I want a McCarty.

The PRS Trem SC's have a MUCH thinner body then the hardtail's. As a result, they don't sound nearly as thick...

I love the McCarty! If I was to get one PRS that would be it. I tried to like the CU and other models but for some reason I just couldn't as well :( I spent a whole good afternoon in GC when I was looking for a new guitar. Ended up trying out pretty much every PRS guitar on the wall, the sales guy had to go up and down on his ladder about 10 times.

What makes McCarty's different than the other models, because to me its probably the only PRS I would consider now. The others look gorgeous but do nothing for me :(

Thump, I have the same feelings about Gibsons as you do about PRS :D The only "Les Paul" that I've enjoyed playing on is our other guitarist's Edwards Custom. On the other hand, almost every PRS I pick up seems to fit my hands like a glove.

i played a prs SC245 yesterday for the first time...WOW...what a guitar..beautiful looks and playability..the tone was spot on too..

through my cameron it made the mids sound real smoother than before...sustained like a good un too..
it played and sounded better than my 57ri custom with bk cold sweat pups..incredible guitar!!

If you "kinda" dig the tone of the McCarty, then you'll probably more apt to like the McCarty Standard. It's a thicker chunk of wood for the body....same as an LP, IIRC. The MC Standards that I've tried all ooooze fat tone.

Have been on a serious McCarty binge for a few years now, I let go of some good stuff to get them, but they have been fantastic!! The neck has some meat to it , and they are solid as a rock, no matter what you do to them. The consistancy between the 2 I have is amazing. Have 1 with EMG81-85, and 1 with stock neck, and Tremonti bridge pups. I lov'em !!

McCarty's are the shit!!! I absolutely love mine. They only come in widefat. If you're not worried about resale and found the guitar that you know will be a keeper, you can always have it professionally reshaped to something thinner.

Have you checked out the singlecut line? I think they're going to make some of those with different neck options. I'm not sure about the mira neck options, i think it comes in regular neck carve and maybe one more.

I have a singlecut trem that's also wide fat but I find to be thinner than my mccarty widefat.

I didn't know there were different McCarty's. lol! I'll have to check that out.

I have a McCarty with Korina body and neck, braz fingerboard and birds... I'll probably be buried with it. Super light, resonant, toneful guitar. No weight relief holes and it barely weighs six pounds!

Pete

Yeah the mccarty neck has become my favorite. I think it's my favorite guitar

I think they had the regular mccarty witih maple top, the mccarty standard (no maple top), mccarty korina (korina body, i don't know about the top), mccarty trem, mccarty with rosewood neck (also referred to as mcrosie). The new mccarty II is like a mccarty but with some preamp circuit to similate the singlecoil tones rather than splitting the humbucker or something like that.

On top of being a bitching guitar, you can ussualy get a fair deal on them too.

The McCarty korina is one of the best sounding guitars out there...it's the only guitar I'll play when I go into GC. If it came with the Tremonti Wide Thin neck I'd own one. I've now got 3 Tremonti's...they are amazing guitars. It's official i am a PRS whore now. It took me awhile but once i got used to them...really can't even touch my Les Pauls anymore. Just me though.

The McCarty Korina has no cap - all Korina body. They sure look great, but I've never played one.

The McCarty Standard was discontinued. Oddly, that model and the SC245 are the models both touted as getting close to an LP sound....close. The MC Standard is an all mahagony body and neck....no maple cap.

I like the McCarty neck! If I could change it, I'd go thicker, not thinner. But yeah, it feels good.

I just looked on the PRS site and they now have "McCarty II" and "McCarty Korina" models. I don't see anything that says "McCarty Standard." Was there more than one McCarty version?
You can get that neck in Brazilian rosewood too!!!!, Have only played 1, but it rang like a bell! same carve, too.

I sold my McCarty hardtail and currently have a McCarty trem. Both awesome guitars.

If fact, I had sent you pics of mine when you were selling your K-line. Well, the guy who bought if from me is selling it on the Gear Page. I don't know if he didn't bond with it or what, but I thought it was a great guitar.

The only thing I don't like are the stock McCarty pickups. They're pretty weak...excuse me, "vintage"...and I think they sound kinda blah. I put a JB and Jazz in my old one, which I thought sounded great...until I put of set of Aldrich's in my new McTrem. Holy crap, it sounds awesome. That thick neck with those Suhrs...it'll sustain for days.

I don't know if they make rosewood an option anymore, but they have in the past, a few come up used on ebay or over at birdsandmoons.com
