And i gotta say - i preferred the dsl. Was in the area so i stopped by and went into the loud room, picked up a deam mustaine V and plugged into the roadster first. I couldn't figure out how to switch channels lol, it was on the channel that has the controls on the bottom left of the faceplate, and was plugged into a mesa 4x12 with vintage 30's. I did figure out how to switch between the modes of the channel, messed around with the settings, it didn't seem to have the range of presence that my tsl has, or the range of cleaning up by rolling the guitar volume back, but like i said, i only played the one channel. Overall i liked it. It had a more "squishy" sounding low end than my tsl.
Then i played the mark V hooked up to another mesa 4x12 with i think V30's. It seemed complicated, and i did get some pretty good tones, but nothing really "wow'd" me. I only played the clean and middle channel and only played it for about 10 minutes. I messed with it a little and didn't really have anything that jumped out at me, and didn't really feel like sitting there figuring it out for half an hour lol
Then i plugged into the dsl, it was sitting on a marshall 4x12 with g12t75's, and i was really surprised how similar it sounded to my tsl(which is fja modded) - the dsl didn't seem to have quite the range of presence or gain that my tsl has, and my tsl has just a little more ass to put behind it's low end, but they were very similar. One thing that stood out to me was that neither the roadster or the dsl seemed to be able to clean up as much and cop lower gain bluesiness as well/as much as my tsl does by just rolling the guitar volume back. Kind of interesting. I'd really be interested to hear an fja modded dsl now.
Also i guess i should add that i dunno if it just needed new strings or what but that dean mustaine V didn't feel anywhere near as comfortable to play to me as my ltd mustaines. Maybe it's just because i've had them so long i dunno lol.

Yeah that thing sounded good man. I liked it. I kind of already have one though lol. I wander what modding it would do. Or even just putting a better OT on it would do - if it could improve it a little

Plugging into a Mark V without trying the 3rd channel is like pulling off Jessica Alba's pants, then walking away.

They're weird amps to dial in. Try searching for some settings first in some threads. The V can be made to sound like crap really easy, especially if you dial it in like a Marshall.

Yeah i kinda got that impression. My tsl's like that and i fiddled with the mark V for a bit and started to notice that, and realized i didn't know what the hell i was doing with it lol, figured eh screw it lol. I just happened to be in the area figured i'd stop in and see what they had. I might go back and check it out i am kinda curious

I love the Mark V.. I sold mine, but it's still a fantastic amp. It takes time to get to know it... but you will be rewarded.

hmm interesting..

I've had a chance to play a DSL50 in my rehearsal room. As an owner of a sevenstring guitar and mark 5 I was quite intrigued to get something for those modern marshall kind of tones. Going back and forth from Mk5 to DSL50 using a traditional 4X12 cab with v30s I had the following impression:

On it's own without any boosts I was disappointed with the DSL, it just did not reach the saturation and gain levels of my mark 5, it pushed so much bass it was freaking weird. We tried dozens of settings on green/crunch channel and on the red one. The red one had so much fizz/buzz I just could not get rid of it using the controls.
Once i pushed the gain/treble/presence back it lost sustain and clarity, if pushed towards higher levels it was a beehive.

After that we hooked it up with a boss SD-1 superoverdrive up front and it made things a lot better. Based on a couple of reviews of these heads, I thought I'd like the green/crunch boosted, but on the contrary, it was the red channel boosted with gain around 9-10 o'clock.
I swear I could get into the Mk5 channel 3 (mk4) kinda tones that way, but at the end of the day. It was not nearly as useful or good. I prefer having 3 channels to be honest and the marshall would let me with even more tap dancing than now.

The only amp I tried recently, that got me really interested was a friends 90s mesa dual rectifier two channel. That amp was one of the best insane recto sounds I've heard in my whole life.

You need to give the V at least an hour, 10 mins is nowhere near enough. Luckily while mine was in transit to me, I was able to go to a store and the guy there ran me thru each channel and what it does. Helped that he was a Mesa freak and knew how to help me dial it in but that session sold me on the amp and I knew I made the right choice.

CH3, Mk4 mode, bliss

:hys:
Ch1 and Ch3 are worth it alone. Ch2 takes some work :gethim:

I own the MK V and agree it takes time to dial in the channels. I wouldn't A/B it against any Marshall though. I can't see the point. Neither amp will get the other's sounds.

Try a koko boost in the front end of a DSL... Amazing Tone!!

I got a dsl 100 last month. I hit it with the Surreal Amplification More pedal and it tone bliss.
Crunch channel, no reverb, b,m,t all at noon. Then i adjust res and presc to my liking.

I hit the extra gain button at volume 1.

For the cheap amp I is, a DSL100 and a few dirt pedals is hard to beat. Gotta try the Suhr boosts and Jerry's More pedal. Seems to be pretty universal love there.

So you're going to give us your impression of these amps with out trying all the channels and really giving them time? lol

I'm kind of thinking about either selling my tsl or trading for a dsl and sending the dsl off to have modded lol.

Anyway - i wasn't really A/B'ing them - i was just in the area and stopped in just to mess around for a bit.
