there was one in a guitar center hanging up on the wall in a secton of the store next to a $300 jackson and a cheap ibanez - almost anyone could miss it.

they didnt have any amplifiers - no 5150 III's, the usual combos, line 6, vox, etc nothing else really. an accoustic guitar section and thats about all. im walking around, looking at the very top of the ceiling and i see the indestinctable "A" on a headstock - and im immediately thinking "no way can that be a tom anderson guitar on the east coast in this store"

they got it down and sure enough "made in california" is ground into the neck plate with the A logo.

after looking at the woods, i think the guitar was mahogany with a quilt maple top in dark blue, and a solid rosewood neck and rosewood fretboard. not sure on the rosewood neck though? it had very straight grain lines all the way down the neck like pao-ferro (sp?)

the pickups had large magnets....not sure if they were bare knuckles or stock anderson pickups? no one knew in the store. whatever it was, the bridge pickup was fucking sick. talking very distinct and very high output. the neck pickup wasnt

the neck felt right at home on the backing contour.

the floyd was the strat type, the nut was a standard nut but it didnt need to be locking. it stayed in tune great and the vibrato was very easy even in standard tuning.

the tone was just sick. anyone remeber that suhr guitar youtube video comparing the fender prosonic, fortin, white cameron marshall, etc? the guitar sounded like that all day long and then some. it was KILLER even through a cheap vox amplifier. all of the guys in the shop were shocked.

the tone was all in the guitar.

im thinking about trading one of my guitars plus cash for it....but it does not have the normal stud-type floyd rose tremelo's i am used to. but the tone in that guitar was so good i dont think i cared.

im not sure if it was the action on that guitar or what, but it was pretty hard to do any tapping or long runs vertically up and down the neck. at least compared to other guitars. im thinking it was just a shitty setup though.

all i can say is that i was shocked at the tone and how precussive the guitar was. im a believer in anderson guitars now. just simply stunning in tone, build quality, wood quality, paint and clear coat, neck and fretboard design and if they are the stock pickups - even the pickups as well (not sure here though what they were)

very impressed.....im on the fence of getting it. still not sure.....but i do see myself owning an anderson guitar in the future now. stomped ass tonally on anything ive ever played and makes my white 1988 charvel sound like a toy. hell, i can say that it SOUNDS better than my ibanez prestige but does not play as well as it does.

FWIW im still shocked. i didnt want to put the guitar down and leave

No surprises there man! I got my first Anderson back in June and I feel the exact same way. It blows away all my other guitars in feel, tone etc. If you can get the serial off the neck plate you can run it in the Anderson site and it'll give you all the specs for the guitar including pickups (assuming they haven't been swapped).

I personally LOVE Anderson pickups, even before I got my guitar I was using TA pickups. The typical hums and singles are easy to ID as well since they use the large pole pieces and there's a small hole in the center.

Good luck if you decide to go for it. I'm sure you won't regret it. My second Drop Top is on order now and should be done in a month or so

was it this one by any chance ???

andersons are amazing ......... when i get older and am out of my "fancy paintjob" phase im gona replace all my guitars with andersons...they just combine the classy look while still being able to shred your face off

i think ill hold off on getting that particular one - and get a custom anderson ordered simillar to it but with a floyd, and locking nut.

definately cannot believe how great that guitar sounded. so heavy. so clear. so precussive. so defined and just cut like a knife - it stood out against all of the other guitars in that store. tonally it was just awsome

the pickups did have large magnet poles - are the pickups like a black ceramic looking type of coating? i dont remember seeing any holes but i do remember them looking like no other pickups ive ever seen.

good luck on your second anderson - i still cant get over how well the neck felt in my hands and just overall couldnt hate anything about that guitar.

i loved it, playing that guitar alone made my day.

holy shit yeah - thats the guitar!!!!!!!!!

the series parallel switch is for the humbucker! thats the exact guitar!!!!!!!!!

im in greensboro this week, im not usually on this side of NC.

TA pickups have large poles, probably standard. As mentioned get the serial number and do a search on the TA website, all the info is there.

I feel the same way about my Suhr Modern. I don't want to play anything else. I know Anderson is up there as well.

I only own 2 guitars and they're both Anderson's. They're my favorites.

That's one of my guitars I traded -in on an aged Pearly Gates . Absolutely on of the best sounding instruments I ever owned. The M 1 in the middle screams like a P 90 that just won't quit . Where is it at ?

i'll send you a PM on its location.

but yes that particular guitar screams bloody murder - and yes it does sound fucking phenominal. percussive, LOUD, solid, just excellent all around. dont let the small bridge fool you - it had more lows and more bite and grind than anything i own and play currently.

hey danyeo - i never knew you owned/played andersons?

i definately want an anderson guitar now..... or a few. if Tom can put together all of his guitars like that one, and they all come out sounding like that, there is no reason to own anything else. seriously. the guitar practically played itself

I've played that exact guitar meany times, and almost bought it myself.
great guitar, and yes, shitty setup and the strings have been on it for the last year since they got it.

I have a Drop Top and a Cobra. The Cobra S in my avatar is one i owned a few years ago. It had one of the best tops I've seen but overall i like the Cobra T i have now better. Anderson humbuckers are among my favorites but some of his hum canceling single coils are hit or miss. The SA singles are a little on the dull side but they're really stacked humbuckers. He does make other singles that are more authentic. And i like how when you go to the Anderson forum that Tom usually answers your questions.

Huge fan of Anderson pickups. I've used the HN3+, HN3, H1,and H2+. The H2+ is my absolute favorite bridge humbucker. Someday I will own an Anderson guitar when I have the cash. I emailed Tom once and he was prompt, polite, and very helpful.

Andersons are some great guitars. Then again that's true of most of the high-end "custom shop" instruments like Anderson, Suhr, and many boutique / small custom shops.

Actually, there were quite a few stores on the East Coast that stocked Tom Andersons regularly (AL&M in Norfolk, and Indoor Storm, in Raleigh), so there are quite a few floating around out there. Here's mine. From '93, ordered by AL&M.

One of the best guitars I've ever played was this Anderson Cobra. Felt just about perfect, except that the body could've used just a bit more weight IMO. It felt like it was partially hollow or chambered.

Now this same shop has this one. It's killing me.

If it's the same one I'm thinking of, it's a Cobra S. 24.75 scale with LP type wood.

I'm looking for one of those myself. Not that one, no worries. Seen it already. Want just two pickups

it did seem like a shorter scale

what do you mean by LP style wood?

no worries i dont think im going to grab it - slept on it. i prefer 24 frets and a floating tem - it was a great sounding guitar - but how hard it was to play was a huge turn off.... i mean for $2,000+ id expect it to play like a $2,000 guitar, not a $400 cheap wood fender. even with a bad setup on higher end ESP's i have demo'ed and even the yngwie strat werent as hard to play as it was for some reason :dunno:

the tone it had was great - the playability didnt match it though. not enough for me to want to spend money on it ahead of time outside of my comfort zone/features i am used to.

i do want a guitar with simillar woods though - that tone was just nothing short of killer. who would have thought a rosewood neck and rosewood fretboard would have sounded so pissed off, solid, cutting, etc matched with the maple top/mah body - the second i plugged into that guitar you could have sworn tone wise i was playing a maple neck/fretboard with the bright character
