there was one in a guitar center hanging up on the wall in a secton of the store next to a $300 jackson and a cheap ibanez - almost anyone could miss it.
they didnt have any amplifiers - no 5150 III's, the usual combos, line 6, vox, etc nothing else really. an accoustic guitar section and thats about all. im walking around, looking at the very top of the ceiling and i see the indestinctable "A" on a headstock - and im immediately thinking "no way can that be a tom anderson guitar on the east coast in this store"
they got it down and sure enough "made in california" is ground into the neck plate with the A logo.
after looking at the woods, i think the guitar was mahogany with a quilt maple top in dark blue, and a solid rosewood neck and rosewood fretboard. not sure on the rosewood neck though? it had very straight grain lines all the way down the neck like pao-ferro (sp?)
the pickups had large magnets....not sure if they were bare knuckles or stock anderson pickups? no one knew in the store. whatever it was, the bridge pickup was fucking sick. talking very distinct and very high output. the neck pickup wasnt
the neck felt right at home on the backing contour.
the floyd was the strat type, the nut was a standard nut but it didnt need to be locking. it stayed in tune great and the vibrato was very easy even in standard tuning.
the tone was just sick. anyone remeber that suhr guitar youtube video comparing the fender prosonic, fortin, white cameron marshall, etc? the guitar sounded like that all day long and then some. it was KILLER even through a cheap vox amplifier. all of the guys in the shop were shocked.
the tone was all in the guitar.
im thinking about trading one of my guitars plus cash for it....but it does not have the normal stud-type floyd rose tremelo's i am used to. but the tone in that guitar was so good i dont think i cared.
im not sure if it was the action on that guitar or what, but it was pretty hard to do any tapping or long runs vertically up and down the neck. at least compared to other guitars. im thinking it was just a shitty setup though.
all i can say is that i was shocked at the tone and how precussive the guitar was. im a believer in anderson guitars now. just simply stunning in tone, build quality, wood quality, paint and clear coat, neck and fretboard design and if they are the stock pickups - even the pickups as well (not sure here though what they were)
very impressed.....im on the fence of getting it. still not sure.....but i do see myself owning an anderson guitar in the future now. stomped ass tonally on anything ive ever played and makes my white 1988 charvel sound like a toy. hell, i can say that it SOUNDS better than my ibanez prestige but does not play as well as it does.
FWIW im still shocked. i didnt want to put the guitar down and leave
