Steve (sah5150) came by yesterday and had the Cherry Bomb in tow so I had the opportunity to both plug in the new Charvel So Cal I bought from Squid Musid (chubtone) on Friday AND take the Cherry Bomb for a test drive.
Steve walked me through the options and there's lot of flexibility in this amp. I think this amp offers something different in that it does a great hot rodded plexi tone but also can also do huge amounts of gain but to my ears does it with a vintage twist. There's still some of that old school twang, or string sound in there but with modern high gain (if you want it).
I'd like to spend more time playing it but my initial favorite tone in the amp was what I think is called the plex mode. The hot rodded plexi tone was fat, stayed crystal clear on the bottom end and had great crunchiness in the mids and highs.
Another great sounding amp about to hit the market. A shout out to Curt too who hooked me up with a kickin' guitar at an excellent price. I can't believe these Charvel's go for under $1k.
