Please educate me on a particular preamp tube...

Hey guys. I have a 12AU7A / ECC82 tube. Is this a tube that I can utilize in any of the amps in my signature to enhance tone. How have you utilized it in any of your amps. Im assuming its a less gain tube compared to a 12AX7 / ECC83. I mostly play 80s hard rock. Van Halen , Dokken , Ratt. Thanks in advance.

A 12AU7 has very little signal generation capability compared to a 12AX7—about 20%. It's not as usable as, say, a 12AT7 (60%), which is popular for putting in phase inverters or elsewhere to tame distortion.

Thanks man. I found some info on the difference between 12AX7 / 12AT7 and 12AU7.. Looks like I will have no use for this 12AU7

Yeah, it will neuter your tone, in a bad way. Sterile, and dull.

I dig 5751's for taming insane gain. Preferably USA GE's.
