Ok, this RG550 is for sale locally. They are only asking $350. The Serial # is F931337. I believe this to be an '89 or "99 and made in the Fujigen factory? I didn't think this color scheme was available in '89 but I could be wrong. Also, does it have the square heel or AANJ?

Any more info on this would be greatly appreciated. I want to make a move on it very shortly.

Thanks in advance!

Here are some photos:

Grab it either way. Looks like a square heel which would make it the earlier model but hard to tell with that pic. Great guitar I still have my first one and unfortunately the neck back bowed and is supposedly unrepairable. I love that axe.

It definitely looks like an RG550. The best way to tell, is often the trem. Good price on that :)

Picked it up today!! Man, UNREAL condition! Damn thing looks like it never left a bedroom. There are two very small shallow dings in the top and a very small finish crack at the neck joint (as most of these have) and that is all. The headstock is mint w/out any dings on the tip. Just needs a fret polish and set-up and its 1989 again!!!

OK, so not only is the guitar near perfect, but I got it for $50 less than asking price!! To make this transaction even more odd, the owner was a female. She said that she always wanted to learn to play. Her cousin told her what guitar to buy and this is what she ended up with but she never did learn to play. She said it has been untouched in her closet for the past 15 years! Not that its weird that a girl owned the guitar, but it was the first time in all these years I bought gear from a female.

This was the cherry on top of a very good holiday weekend!

The color is Atlantic Blue. I had one of the early ones. I switched the neck for a later one. Mine was gouged on the arm rest. Looked just like that. Sold it on ebay a couple of years ago; wish I never had.

I got a sweet brand new condition 2001 Japanese RG550 with the AANJ off eBay for $435 shipped.

It came with Breed bridge & neck pickups. Sounds & plays awesome.......love the RG550!!!

nevusofota - so what heel does it have? Great score play the hell out of that thing. Those necks are awesome and get better with age the more they break in. Just keep an eye on them as they are so thin they had lots of issues. Mine back bowed and will never come back. Someday I will replace the neck.

It has the square heel. It's definitely a 1989 as this was the only year they made the Atlantic Blue color. I believe I read that Ibanez stopped with the square and started with the AANJ around 1994.

My 1990 RG770 has the same profile neck but with a rosewood fretboard. It has stayed perfectly straight over the past two decades, probably because of the fretboard. All maple necks are probably much less stable over the years.

Finally got it set up. Polished the frets w/ some 0000 steel wool. They came out great! The guitar has very little wear, I would give it a 9 out of 10. Low action and still no fret buzz or fret out any where on the neck. Didn't even have to do a truss adjustment. Which is pretty odd with these thin maple necks. Here are some pics

Ah man, sorry to hear she got away. I haven't seen many of these. Yours was nice and "relic'd".

I'm thinking about putting in some Evolution pu's. I've always liked them and this would be a perfect guitar to go into. Might even put the old standby in for now, a tone zone.
