Looking for beefing the tone of my rig with an eq. Would like to add it in the loop of my amp.

Low price-Danelectro Fish n Chips..very quiet and does the job.

Higher price-Empress Paraeq...great tone shaping and quality pedal.

I found the Boss and MXR stuff to be noisy, although I haven't tried one in 7 years, maybe they are better now..

Been running an MXR 10 band for 12 years and love it. I've heard people say they're noisy, but mine is dead quite.

The Empress-Paraeq has been the only other eq I've always wanted to try.

Boss GE-10. It’s quiet and sounds incredible. They are tough to find in 110 volts.

The newer MXR’s in silver is their answer to the noise, they’re supposed to not have the noise issues. They’re affordable too. I’d recommend 2 of them, one in front and one in the loop.

Of the higher end stuff, I have the Mesa 5 band which is supposed to be the same EQ as in the Mark V. It works great as first pedal in the loop.

I had a Empress Para EQ 3 band parametric. It was awesome, it's very quiet and it's pretty much like a miniaturized Furman PQ3. I only got rid of it because I found a local Furman PQ3. Side by side it sounded as good as the furman and just as quiet, plus if you are using up front ala Dime or Stryper it also has an addtional gain boost on top of the EQ levels. I think you would really like it in the loop. the input is switchable for instrument or loop levels. Check em out.

I also had a Boss GE-10 and that was also an excellent and very quiet EQ, better than any old blue MXR 10 band, but I haven't used the new silver ones to compare.

I have had two mxr 10 bands fail on me. I fixed one and sold it off (with disclosure of repair) the other is in a drawer somewhere.

I will probably get the empress at some point in time.

I actually like the Danelectro Fish & Chips. It is quieter than the black MXR 10 band I had and only $30 new. Can’t go wrong.

Another thing I’d recommend, if you’ve never checked some out, is some Guitar EQ references. A quick google search turns up some good info, but here are a couple that will help setting the EQ up to get the sound you want.

Another note I have to remind myself of is tha sometimes it’s better to cut a frequency than boost another one. That helps with the noise too.

I have the MXR 10 band (silver version). Cant recommend it enough. Even if you dont use it for EQ'ing you can use it for volume control

Caline makes a good 10 band. Fraction of the price of the mxr and only needs 9v instead of 18.

I would love to try the Mesa EQ pedal. You know damn well that it is a solid piece of equipment. I have two mesas that have the geq and have never felt it was doing anything less than an amazing job.

I use the mesa eq in my triaxis loop, and yes it does a amazing job. It's the same eq as on boogie amps but in a pedal format.

That is what I like about it. The Mesa EQ on the amps does a helluva good job.

Second this, love my GE10.

Yep, MXR M108S I think they're called??
Amazing EQs for the price - quiet and incredibly effective.
Hands down a must have in the bag-of-tricks for me nowadays. It's like a separate front panel to any amp. And they're not overpriced whatsoever.

We must have gotten ours from the same batch or something, I think mine is 12 years as well, and yup, dead quiet.

I've got the Boss as well and a Maxon, but there's some little secret sauce or something in the MXR, everything just sounds a tad better with it (both in the loop and out front).

I've never experienced noise from any MXR EQ in a loop, past or present models included. They're only noisy in front, but what isn't?

MXR 10-Band is the clear winner in a loop, no question.

I've had 2 of the older black MXR 10 bands. The first one I had was fine, no noise or issues. I sold it, regretted and bought another. The 2nd one was noisy as hell, I still have it in a drawer somewhere. Just luck of the draw I guess.

Agreed on the out front and in the loop, everything sounds more dead without mine on. Can't recommend enough; frown out front, smile in the loop, adjust to taste.

I still have an old black one and it crackles and pops pretty badly. I’ve tried cleaning the jacks and all the internals but it hasn’t made a difference.

I moved to the silver MXR 6 band and the Danelectro 7 band and both do a great job, plus they are only 9V so I don’t have to worry about 18v power.
