Just unloaded my Taylor 524CE w/ES2 pickup << pickup sucks BTW and got a 526 non cutaway. Installed an LR baggs Lyric. I have to say, this is the best sounding acoustic pickup I've ever used. I've used everything there is short of sunrise magnetic and a pendulum preamp.

I had a J45 custom. Rosewood/spruce. Never really bonded with it. The all mahogany Taylor sounds fantastic. Different feel than the Gibson, but I'm happy with it. It's probably the best sounding acoustic I've ever owned.

an old Ibanez Artist Acoustic, the pictures don't do it justice, it has beautiful abalone inlays and the top and back are awesome. the neck is bound and this thing plays like an electric, not bad for $200.00 over 25 years ago, with a hard shell and barcus barry PU.

That's a purdy looking Taylor! I've got to go to the Taylor factory sometime. It's about a 20 minute trip from me or so, and yet I still haven't done it.

Here's my most recent acoustic purchase. Breedlove Passport Plus C250/SBe

That's a nice looking rig.
Thanks  I love that guitar. Had it for about a year now, and it's just as great as the day I got it. I played a few Martins, a Seagull, and about 11 Taylors, and this Breedlove felt so much better.

Taylor 416CE and it's 12-string cousin, a Taylor 456CE.

No pics because "Board attachment quota has been reached" and I don't want to mess with clearing out old photos right now...

Interesting, I've been looking into a getting a Taylor with the new ES2 pickup..please elaborate a little on why it sucks.

I shouldn't have said it sucked. I'm a finicky prick.
1. It's treble crazy. Have to turn the treble way down.
2. It just sounds somewhat stale to me. Others are not impressed either. But you have to remember, most of us are spoiled. We want that acoustic sound, but amplified. The technology is better, but it's got a long way to go.

However, it's worlds better than your typical Piezo. If you want to hear a real crap pickup, try out an Ovation. Go to an open mic and listen to the horrible tone most guys are getting. Is the ES2 better than that? Yes. That said, I watched all the ES2 vids from Taylor on how this is the most advanced pickup for acoustics ever and yadda yadda yadda, and I thought they were onto something. It does sound a tad better than the original Taylor Expression system, but not much and no where near as good as they say it is.

But like I said, it's better than most piezo setups.

Thanks, appreciate it..so if the ES2 isn't leaps and bounds better than the original I may still go that route.

You can get these guitars without pickups. Like $200 cheaper and then get something better of your choice. The best systems are dual source systems routed to a stereo jack > a blending preamp. You can individually control each pickup. Internal mic pickup and something like a K+K SBT (sound board transducer) to a DTAR solstice preamp or something like that. Individual control over each pickup. But the purpose of a pickup to me is playing in front of a live audience. And unless you've got some annoying pickup, like the ovation systems I mentioned, the audience typically does not give a shit, unless your one of those solo acoustic superman guys. I play in a band, with loud drums. Nobody really gives a shit about the tone of the acoustic.

I don't know how the LR Baggs Lyric is going to work out at volume, but it's an easy system to install. The hardest part is the jack hole, which in my case was already drilled and a strap button was put in place by the previous owner. So, the LR Baggs Lyric is not invasive as far as installation. A K+K is a little more difficult to install.

I have my LR pickup going into one of these and it sounds pretty good.

And I use this as an amp.

The J45 Custom is nice, but didn't grab me either. To be honest, this J45 guitar didn't grab me until I played it 4 or 5 times and started t understand that magic of the Gibson acoustic tone. Martins immediately impress me with their bass, Taylors with their sparkle and ease of playability. The Gibson has neither. What it does have is a complex mid range that sits underneath vocals so perfectly. Warm, full, and balanced. This one was set up so perfectly from Montana -- I haven't had to touch it. As with all guitars, they vary from piece to piece. I would never recommend buying an acoustic sight unseen unless you're a gamblin man or you're getting a killer deal.

I played my Gibson before I bought it. It felt really hand made to me. The finish was not like a Taylor, but it's sort of like a vintage vibe. There was nothing wrong with the Gibson, just after playing a Taylor, I like that tight, together feel you get from a Taylor.

This is what mine looked like. Couple days after I had it, my toxic sweat from my forearm hazed the upper bout and ate into the Nitro. Wouldn't buff out. Last Nitro guitar I will own. I got lazy and didn't wipe it down after playing it.
