With Ed's last backing track (also posted in the January jam thread, but I figured a separate thread highlighting the HD500 might interest some folks). The playing is shaky since I just had a ganglion cyst in my strumming wrist drained a couple weeks ago, and it's been a while since I had a band to play with...

Physical chain:

Suhr S1 -> POD HD500 -> Cubase SX 5 -> Multiple Tracks -> RedWirez Marshall1960A-G12Ms-R121-CapEdge-5in & 1in (depending on track)

The HD500 FX models are:

Chrome Custom Wah (modded Vox 847) -> ZVex Seek Wah -> Tube Screamer -> Dr Z Route 66 -> Tube Compressor -> Analog Chorus -> Stereo Delay -> Plate Reverb

I just turned the two Wah FX on and off as needed. Everything else is on full time with varying levels of guitar volume.

Yes, I find the RedWirez impulse to be far superior to the built in cabs. The built in cabs are very, very boomy...

It sounds good, but certain spots have this odd honk/chirp that I haven't been able to dial out of my POD HD500 either, although it's much worse on my recordings and I'm a high-gainer. I'm going ballistic trying to figure it out. I've never used impulses though, I might have to get that a shot. I might sell it and use Amplitude for awhile instead.

Well, considering how much wah I used on that clip, I would expect some honk. The chirp, on the other hand, might be from the V-Pick I'm using. It causes a sort of chirp depending on your attack which folks either like or hate (I happen to like it).

As far as the HD is concerned, I haven't really found it to have any inherent honk/chirp. I usually use mine live through an EL34 power amp and guitar cab, though, and haven't done much direct recording with it yet.

I liked it man, sounded really good :thumbsup:

I didn't particularly enjoy my HD500, just wasn't my thing. Didn't bring the high gain stuff well enough :dunno:

I agree with you on the high-gain note. Though while the 1.20 firmware update really bollocksed up the Uberschall model, the Fireball model absolutely RIPs now. I have a live patch with the Recto and Fireball preamps and it's pretty close to that Mark Day level of ultra-gain.
