Well, to be fair, the Park model sounded great from the get-go. Really "mellow" and organic compared to the rest.
Unfortunately everything else required a lot of work. I've a feeling that if I had a LP, the battle with scratchiness would've been far less ubiquitous as far as the various models are concerned; I've noticed that with my Kemper, Profiles that sound harsh in the high end often sound great with my brother's LP. I'm using JTV Variax Strat models and, er, a Fender Squire SC Strat ($80 s/h) and a... uugghh... Behringer El Toro! (Strat-style heap of junk with a surprising amount of balls at $80 s/h).
If you doubt that many folks encountered this issue, I regret to inform you that many indeed did, including the one-and-only MeAmBobbo, who many L6 users would know has maintained tips-and-tricks sites for various PODs over the years. He, like I, could not overstate his relief when he switched to Kemper and pulled tones right out of the box in the first minute. We both achieved satisfactory results from our HD units; it's just, as I said, unfortunate that it took us so much time and work.
If the OP's happy to use 3rd-party, pre-rolled presets, I do think there'd be plenty that'd satisfy him. Perhaps my and Bobbo's insistence on avoiding others' programming like the plague came home to bite us both on the ass, but hey, that's just how some of us roll.
It is good to hear that many did manage to get what they wanted out of their HDs. Thanks for that Polaris.
