This is for Uli Roth. Someone asked if he was good. He's fucking great and I posted up a video of "Polar Nights" by the Scorpions to show you why he's better than any one here on RigTalk, hands down, no doubt.

But Prince? Show me. He does suck moose meat IMO. Prove me wrong about him and the others with a song or video that shows their prowess.

There's nothing they can do that I can't.

I know there's going to be someone who does the "YEAH BUT HAVE YOU SOLD A GAJILLION ALBUMS?!!?!" fallacy argument, but there's probably at least 40 people here who are better than all of those players, and I'm definitely one of them

And to pre-empt the retarded "HOW MANY ALBUMS HAVE YOU SOLD?" argument, he just asked if you're a better "guitar player" not how lucky you are to be in the right place at the right time, or even how creative of a songwriter you are, which are the main factors that contribute to album sales.

I would say all of those dudes except prince are actually shit guitarists, and prince is pretty good but nothing special at all

I'd wager 95% of the people who play guitar are better than me.
I did see Prince play live, and he seemed to know what he was doing, so that's about all I can say about that.

Really?

Post a clip.

Btw, I love Uli. Great player, iconic in fact.

that first part is kind of ridiculous man, you know that's not true, or you wouldn't have a clip in your sig.

I dig Prince as an artist a lot, I like his guitar playing ok, but dayum he could write some music.

don't sleep on Keith, the bulk were his riffs ;)

Yeah. And Keith came up in a different time of guitar. There was no metal shredding back then; you’d be cast into the eternal fire unless you played for hee haw. Anyway, Keith did write one of the most iconic riffs ever. I don’t know that I want to emulate him but the guy has looked 82 years old since he was about 40 and worth probably a few hundred million dollars.

I'd argue more than one.

the 82' yr old comment has me rolling. He has looked like he was 80 since I was in elementary school. My babysitter was into them, lol.

Prince isn't like a shredder or anything, but he doesn't suck ass or anything either

He gets overrated because he's a popular singer, much like Kurt and a lot of other guys who suck at guitar but made songs that resonated with people
I'm one to laugh at 'polls' that rank players...silly shit IMO. No, I don't think Prince was all that. Keef, not a technically proficient player but cmon, he's wrote some of the greatest rock riffs ever. It's like banging on Page, because he could be a little sloppy at times...It's still Jimmy frickin Page!
I've heard clips here that are killer, and then some that sound like a 6th grader learning for the first time. No timing, feel.....but it's not a talent show, so who gives a shit. It's about the gear....and how we all go broke chasing it!! Lol

Keef has written a shit ton of iconic riffs. Write something as good as Monkey Man and post it up.

Prince, watch the George Harrison tribute concert and his lengthy solo at the end. Also Let's Go Crazy solo.

Cobain was a better songwriter than guitarist and certainly he was no great lead player in the classic sense, but the argument can be made that he tried to avoid that on purpose and was probably capable of it. Plus there are a lot of cool chord changes in a lot of his songs. Also if you watch live videos of him in concert it's clear he's no slouch. Singing that shit and playing it at the same time in a 3 piece band and pulling it off like that ? IDK, sounds good to me.

Never a big fan of U2 and I was able to pick out New Years Day and Sunday Bloody Sunday by ear when I was about 12 so I'm not overly impressed.

All of them are better than me though so....

Your modesty is getting tiresome. You're pretty damn good. Just live with it, ok? :D
I appreciate that brother, but he can duplicate any style, and can use his own style when he wants. He's one of those guys I look at, and wonder where the witchcraft is. I have an ego, and I feel like I can write a catchy riff, but a man has to know his limitations.

That little freak even had a fully grown beard at age 2
