Poll Exposes How Much the Elite Hate Us

Maybe I'm missing something about this "survey," but $150k in NYC or Los Angeles is not elitist, it's middle class. And under their definition of elitist, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and Zuckerberg would not be included because none hold graduate degrees. Yet a veterinarian would be elitist.

Makes sense to me

Good point. I think it actually better reflects midwit elite-ambitious class, which is why I suggested you’d probably get similar results with just the advanced degree minus salary criteria.

Maybe. My guess is that they started with a conclusion and backed into a methodology to support that conclusion.
Why do you think that? I took a brief glance at the methodology and it doesn’t appear biased by design.

Because the way they operationalize "elite" is disingenuous.

Why did they exclude from the survey rural and suburban respondents (with the 10,000 per square mile criterion)? Is it because no elites live in these areas? If you live in a $150 million beachfront mansion in the Hamptons or Malibu you are not an elite? But two elementary school teachers making $75k a year in NYC or LA implies wealth and privilege to you?
Again I agree that their criteria doesn’t really reflect the “elite.” That being said, it reflects a relevant demographic, which I determined to be the educated ambitious class, managerial class, perhaps the new “bourgeoisie.” What do you think?

If a survey lacks construct validity then it's useless. And if the headline was Poll Exposes How Much the Ambitious and Managerial Class Hate Us, then it doesn't fit Zerohedge's narrative and nobody would click on it.

Bourgeois is a loaded word and I don't think it fits here. Maybe something closer to "upwardly mobile." But again, those terms don't offer the confirmation bias that Zerohedge loves to push.
It wasn't a Zerohedge poll, but it does appear that the group responsible is partisan and perhaps biased. Regardless, it was conducted by Rasmussen and appears to be valid, barring some details that we aren't aware of. Whatever you want to call the group, I think it is a striking finding and in fact it appears that there is a relationship with certain beliefs, geographical demographics (city) and income.

That's a pretty big omission. Polling is supposed to be transparent so that it can be replicated and validated.

I’m just saying unless there is something we’re not being told. I’ll check to see if Rasmussen has more on it, but theoretically you should have enough to replicate the study based on what they described. I don’t think dismissing it based on the possibility of poor design is justified.
