Thought it would be cool to find out what everyone is using as far as strings go. Vote and then reply with your string choice.

I use D'addario mainly because I get them free but they work pretty well, too.

I've used Blue Steels for years. The only reason why is for some reason I never break them. They last 9-12 months for me under heavy, heavy use. I usually change them because I feel like they should be changed, not because they need changing. Every time I try another brand of string, love 'em or hate 'em, I break a string within 3 months.

I agree...the only strings that really felt noticeably different to me were Thomastik-Infeld Power Brights...but they ain't cheap.

Right now i'm using D'addario .09's . Used to be GHS 12's. For my go to guitar at the moment, the 9's just work better, plus I don't have to superglue my fingers back together at the end of the night anymore lol.

Blue steel's feel and sound the best and the best thing to me is there not overally bright and snappy right after you string them.

I like Elixirs. I have been using them for about 3 years. They seem to last a long time and I hate changing strings. I used Blue Steels before that. The Blue Steels are great too. When on a budget I go with Daddarios or Boomers. I don't like DR strings. The girl at guitar center who was hot by the way, swore the DR strings were the greatest thing on earth. I tried them and did not like them. They reminded me of some Gibson strings I bought and just hated.

I use Elixir nanoweb 11-49 strings. They are the only strings that last for me. Plus, they don't get grungy. They stay smooth and slick. All the regular strings (non-coated), I break 2-3 per rehearsal, where the Elixir's will last for a couple of months. Sure they cost a little bit more, but well worth it in my opinion. They don't beat up the fret wire like regular non-coated strings, either. I used to use Blue Steel's, but they ate up my frets something fierce, and broke way too often.

My standard set are the GHS Boomers...


I've been toying around with other sets, but I always run into breakage issues or they dont last nearly as long.

I recently bought a dozen of the Ernie Ball Titanium Skinny Top Heavy Bottom and have had more string breakage issues than any other kind of string....way to live up to your selling point for these strings. Had the guitar setup for the strings when I got them, so I think I'm safe to assume there arent any issues with the guitar itself. Broke 2 strings in 1 set the first gig I used them, then went 3 or 4 shows without an issue, and recently been on a breaking issue again...

I am using D'Addario. They seem to be pretty darn good for the money and are easy to find. I used to use DR, then switched to D'Addario. I tried DR again recently and just didn't like the feel or how they stayed in tune. Its too bad, I used to swear by DR, not sure if I changed or they changed.

I have recently tried a pack of Curt Mangan strings. I liked them alot, but I didn't feel they were worth the extra money over D'Addario.

One trick to getting your strings to last longer is to whipe them down when you are done playing. I get about double the life out of my strings by doing this.

I used Boomers for years because George Lynch did back in the day...I finally changed over to Blue Steels once I realized that Boomers suck (I used to break them way too often).

Blue Steels are great for one gig and then they lose their tone. For people who like "dead strings", these are ok as they seemed to last for quite some time after that initial loss of brightness.

I got turned on to DR Tite Fits in the late 90's and that's all I use now. To me, they sound bigger, last longer (tonally and physically) than other uncoated strings, and feel better. The "feel" thing is tough to qualify...it's almost like they have this smoother/more "rubbery"/elastic feel to them. If you compare them to, say, D'Addario, you will definitely notice the difference.
