I got to meet Daniel of Port City amps and cabs at the NY amp show and all I can say is that I was totally blown away by his cabs (The amps were great as well!!)

I have never heard a cab project the sound like the port city cabs do and I happen to own 2 ported cabs. When Daniel set his amp to clean the sound that came out of the cabs were truly stunning. The really amazing thing is that the sound comming from the amp felt as if it was 2 inches away from my face and I had to be at least 10 ft from the amp. It was truly uncanny!! I tried both the regular and oversized cab and they are both amazing and each have there own thing going on but they both project the sound like a beast!!

I cannot say enough great things about Daniel and his work. He treated me and my friends like gold and that goes a long way with me! I would highly recommend anyone to check out his stuff if they can!!

Now all I have to do is start selling off some gear to buy one of his cabs!!!

all the best!

Ralph

I've never heard them in person, but I think Dave Weiner from Vai's band got rid of his Mesa 2x12's for those.
They must be pretty good.

Dave did off his mesa and replaced it with a Port city cab. Daniel said that Dave was extremely happy with the results of the PC cab !
These things sound insane. I have 2 earcandy ported cabs and they make the sound of my amps huge but they don't project like the Port City cab. The Port city cabs sound like they are right up in your face even though they are 10 ft away! It really has to be experianced lol!! I feel sorry for the poor SOB who is in front of the cab at a live gig lol!!

on another note, recording a PC cab should be a breeze and I can definitely see using 2 mics to record this sucker because it would be easy as hell to use a room mic with this amp since that sucker projects the sound like a laser!!

What cabs did you try Ralph? 2x12 4x12 1x12 ?

He had a 2x12 standard size, 2x12 oversize cab and a 1x12 cab. Each one of them sounded killer!

Very cool!! I wish i could check em out!!

Did it sound, just barely on?

Was Earcandy there?

No! EC cabs was not there!

I told Daniel that when I first saw the Port city cabs that I thought they looked like something out of Alien but to be honest with you, they have grown on me! I really dig them now!

Was the os 2x12 that much bigger sounding than the standard?

It was definitely deeper sounding but both cabs just killed. I wasn't sure which one I liked better but I don't think anyone could go wrong with either.

Daniel highly recommended the oversized cab for high gain amps.

Plus Port City is housed here in NC. Wilmington I believe! One reason to rock his gear right there!

I saw them posted and yeah they are an acquired taste for sure, the ports look huge on the 4x12s!

It did not help that the Tolex was Mopar Hemi Lime Green!!!!!!

Edit......looks wise I meant by acquired taste!

I don't like the Austin Powers 60's vibe myself. finnochio.

Dude, after hearing your mills cab, I would not be looking for anything else! The only reason why I am stuck on 2x12 cabs is because I dont have a vehicle yet that can transport a 4x12 cab!

Ralph, regarding the Mills cab... as in good or bad? Didn't get which way you meant it.

The 2X12 OS is for me I think. With that being said the 2X12 non-OS sounded EVERY bit as big with moderate gain and under/clean sounds as the OS. But, for high gain, yep OS. Didn't hear the 1X12. Shouldv'e though.

The Port City cabs have been popular on TGP for a while now. I almost bought one dirt cheap a few months ago, it was a 2x12 and the guy was local and was selling it for around $350. Damm thing sold in 5 minutes.

Im just not sure about the whole port thing. Doesnt that give a false kinda bottom and feel?

I had a Genz Benz 2x12 ported cab that I didn't like at all as well as the Earcandy 2x12, the Earcandy was better of the two but they both sounded like fake bass.

Yeah that's what makes me not so sure about ported cabs. Im not a bass hound anyway but I definately dont want a fake bass to the tone.

Are the Port City 4x12s front or rear loaded ?

Are they designed around specific speakers ?
