Been looking at this and almost pulling the trigger, just wanted some advice before I do. Here's the link

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1984-GIBSON-EXP ... Sw0GJZpdqs

Looks pretty legit, but I was doing some research and the headstock logo looks all wrong. I asked him about this and he said when the guitar was refinished the new logo was put on, still should match though yeah? Plus you can't see the serial number. He did provide one and it does check out to being built in August of 84, but I can't see it. I guess the pics don't pick it up very well. I'll send the pics that he sent me, just wanted to see what you guys thought of this. Almost looks too good to be true. Actually it won't let me attach any pics. Here's the serial he gave me/82304582
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Chris

Yea after looking around that config is right for a kahler model, I'm just used to the three in a line from hardtails. That being said the neck heel looks too round and too big and if it's legit they sanded off the joint line.

He's got it on reverb too. There are other 84s on there definitely something fishy with the heel, could be from the sanding/filling/painting I suppose but between that and the fishy logo id skip it. There is an ivory hardtail for 1200 on reverb too so it's not like the price is a steal...

I would not go after that guitar. Even if it is legit (that neck joint looks funky) it's just not a good deal for what it is. I would pass just my .02 cents

Dude was saying it was just re finished not too long ago, which would explain the white and not more cream color. I think I'll take your guys' advice and skip it. Dude has horrible grammar too. Still a killer looking axe, but if I'm going to shell out that kind of dough I want the real deal. Maybe I'll just stick with my original plan and grab an ESP Horizon. Thanks again guys.

Man, there is so much wrong with that ad. It says "The same guitar Hetfield made famous" but doesn't have the speed knobs, has a tremolo, and the Zakk Wylde set. Also, why does it have an aftermarket case? What happened to the original Gibson case? Just seems like a lot of "what the F?" with that ad.

In my opinion you would be better off getting one of the new Epiphone 1984 Explorers that is basically a low priced version of that guitar.

Glad you didnt buy that P.O.S. The neck joint to the body if beyond fishy.

By the way, hows things at the Original Quaker Steak and Lube.
Used to get all F'd up when Thunder Harley did there thing at 3 by the River.

Quakersteak is going to shit. Some big company bought them out and they're changing a bunch of stuff. Kind of sucks now. You're not missing anything I promise. There's only been like 2-3 concerts there this year. Let me know if you make it down. I went and saw Parkway Drive at the House of Blues earlier in the summer. Not a bad show.

"and a middle pickup added" For the life of me i can't find a middle pickup, i see a neck and a bridge pickup though :D

said it looked bad along with color and removed it.

The body looks accurate, but as mentioned above, either the guy had the transition from the neck to body sanded down, or it's a terrible fake, even if you are able to ignore the terrible water slide Gibson logo. If this Explorer were refinished correctly, and no mods were made, I've seen these sell for $1,200 over the last few months.

Because of the permanent modifications, and the lack of attention to detail, I wouldn't guess he'd even get $900, by due to the fact that the OHSC is missing, even a price of $650 would be a little much.
