I was looking at some Universe and Jem swirls on ebay and found this. I don't think I've ever seen something so hideous.

I've seen worse.

Much worse.

But that's not too pretty.

For that body shape it is a pretty bad, but def not the worst overall.

 My only question is why  That used to be a nice Ibanez...

The first guitar is pretty bad. The guitar above this post looks like a Lea Paul that broke into a Tweenkie factory.

Shoot me now, but I find Telecasters in general to be the ugliest guitar ever.

I know, I get flack for this opinion all the time. I just don't get it. It is a plank of wood.

I think everybody is generally commenting on the the baby shit swirl green color and the price.
You may get shot knocking the Tele body!

I think the shop-class bandsaw work upset my stomach more than the paint. But yes, the paint is superfugly.

And the price is awesome.

Here here!! I have to agree with you... In fact, Teles used to make me angry, just the mere sight of them!! I loathed them, and just never, ever, ever understood their primitive gross backwards simplistic fugliness.

Problem is now I must have one. I am unsure as to when or how the paradigm shift occured, but it did. I hate it so much I love it? I dunno. You gotta understand I've had a real hate-on for teles for about, oh, 30 years   One day this amp arrives at my door - the Diezel Hagen. I play it. I come to realize that although this amp is probably one of the coolest meanest detune-ready thunder god amps out there, it has this absolutely outstanding clean. One of the best cleans I've ever heard in my LIFE!! So good in fact, I thought to myself, "hmmmm, wonder what a real country twanger would sound like through this??", and perhaps henceforth, my urge to get a Tele was born...

Now, to the OP - that Jem looks like ET dropped acid, ate Mexican food and shat this concept of a guitar out. Horrible.

As for the other red headed step child midway down - at least it has some wood to it that's visible...making it slightly less insulting.

But if someone pulled that Jem outta their case during an audition? Hellfire, I'd run...

Wood shop class, magic markers and a guitar case that's been outside for 5 years...$2500....yeah, that seems like a fair price....

I feel like a tard not really noticing the "happy on the band saw" aspects of that thing, and then add the the baby shit swirl green color and the price.
God forbid if "bizarre-guitars" is a member here.

These guys may buy it, the hot dog is $80.00 in Boston

That's so funny!!! That's a Joe Despagni built Jem from back in the day. I actually own one of his guitars. I have had it for years. Joe was Steve Vais childhood friend and made a lot of his guitars back in the day, including the swiss cheese and flame. His shop was in his garage on Long Island. I got mine in 1987 from there and it was the coolest thing back then. The guitar is actually pretty awesome. The neck is just right and it has a single Dimarzio X2N which totally rocks. Believe it or not, I still use it on recordings, especially for solos. Here is a pic of mine lol!!!!

Pre-Ibanez Joe Despagni Jem...most of his guitars were simply strat bodies cut into odd shapes (you can cut Vai's flame guitar out of a strat). There are some really cool ones out there and a lot of ugly ones as well. They have a cult following...this guy will most likely get most of his asking price.
