I recently purchased a Cioks DC 10. I'm wondering if is bad to use more mA into a pedal then what it requires? Would the pedal just take what it needs and disregard the left over mA's?
You won't hurt the pedal as it will only draw what it needs. The thing to watch for is getting the voltage right. A pedal might sound bad if it doesn't have enough and with some pedals you can actually damage the pedal with too much voltage. For instance some tube screamer type pedals can be damaged by running them with more then 12v but a lot of other overdrives gain more headroom if you run that at 18v instead of 9v. As to the mA question though just make sure the port you plug the pedal into can supply the same or more then the pedal needs and you will be fine. You can also daisy chain pedals if you need more pedals then you have jacks for instance running a 80mA and a 100mA pedal on a 200mA jack.
