I have a nice preamp that I wanna start using but I need to buy a poweramp, what's out there that I can use? I'm not looking for too much power honestly, so, 50 watts is enough, I could even do with 20. what do you recommend?

The best bang for the buck is the old Marshall 9005, one of the black ones that were out before the gold ones. Essentially two 50w JCM800 power sections in a box. Wattage isn´t all about volume, either, smaller amps are slightly less loud but sound a lot smaller.

Thank you for the suggestions, anything out there that's not too bulky and heavy?

If you want something lightweight that still sounds big I´d probably ditch the smaller tube-driven options and try one of the Matrix solidstate poweramps instead, maybe the GT1000FX.

+1 I have the 1U model and it's light and powerful. There's always the EHX 44 Magnum.I run my AX8 through one for rehearsals and it's plenty loud.

Hi Joey, how r u?

The 9005 is nice indeed but a heavy monster :D 3RU. I gave mine to Peter so that he finally brings out a preamp :D

I would look in the used market for a Peavey Classic pwr amp or a Hughes & Kettner VS50. Alternatively a Randall RT eats all of them for breakfast inkl. the VHT/Fryette 2/50 things IMO.

Take care

Olaf

Hi Olaf, long time no see. It's time I dust off your own Krampe KMP. I have been doing acoustic performances almost exclusively for the last 3 years with a little bit of electric guitar here and there and for that I've use my Princeton Reverb on gigs, but I feel like putting this preamp to good use so I'm in the market for a power amp.

I'll check your recommendations as you know what sounds best with your own preamp :D

The Rocktron Velocity 300 is underrated but excellent. If you're looking for something small, light, and affordable, it's a great option.

The Mosvalve MOSFET is a nice option, light weight and should give you what you want. Cheap used as well. I believe Psychodave has one for sale here. I used one back in the early 90s, with an ADA MP1. Sounded nice.

Yep, these are great! I use one with my CAE 3+ amd for slaving my Marshall Plexi, I think it sounds better than the Mesa 2:90 I used previously

I'd get a Mesa 2:90 (oh wait, I already have one  ). Only 2U, nice tone, very well made, voicing options etc. It's heavy though.

For cheap, small and good sound go for the Marshall EL 84 20/20. Has a deep mode and presence knob. Also runs as a dual mono block. It's u1 in size but pretty heavy and needs sufficient cooling
