Powering down: when to hit the Stand By switch

Hi all:

VH4 owner here. When turning the amp off, which is better for the caps, etc.: hitting the power switch then the standby switch a moment later, or the reverse?

Sorry, thought it was an actual question. When turning it off, doesn't the order in which you hit the standby switch and the power switch affect whether or not the caps discharge?

I always hit standby after a session and then power down thereafter... FWIW.

I switch them off simultaneously. Does it even matter?

To be honest, I don´t take care in the workshop
because I have to hurry up.

To avoid any noise, switch to standby, wait for
5 seconds to shut down the power switch.

I like to think of my Diezels more like they're that hot trashy girl from the concert... Just' sayin!
 
I learned that it's best to bleed as much energy as you can out of the tubes. Strum a chord, then hit the standby switch. Once all the noise is gone give the power tubes a minute to cool back down, then turn off the mains.
 
Agreed. But you don't even need to strum anything prior to hitting the standby switch - as that is only adding signal to the circuit if you really think about it. Doesn't matter if you're just walking over to your amp and not playing a thing... Hit the standby, any signal in the circuit bleeds, the heaters remain on for the PTs, and after a bit, power down.

It's pretty simple really, and I've always done it the way Peter said.

Turn on the stand by, wait 5 seconds, and turn the amp off.

I buy it dinner first, some jewelry, then flip the standby...hope it puts out...then power down cuz im going to watch Sportscenter! :lol: :LOL:
 
Pretty close to the dumbest thread I've seen on here....

Should I plug my power cable into the back of the amp first and THEN the wall? Or the other way around? And furthermore, should I plug my guitar cable into the amp first....or the guitar? God I just can't decide....
 
Thats really not at all a way to treat a new guy to RT worried about his nice amp..

Look, as far as I know, turning the power off first drains the filter caps. Hitting stand by and then the power does not. So the question was which is better for th filter caps in the long run. From Peter, looks like it doesn't matter. Thanks, I think. Whatever.
