Practice amp?

I like the Fender Mustang

I usually just stay on the Supersonic setting

So many options man.

Peavey Bandit for a good combo. Or even 5150.

Bias works but I like some of the other free amp sims better. One thing I did was get a 44 magnum power amp pedal and the Bias app on my iphone into a 4x12. Sounded killer tbh.

I have seen a few posts about latency but I dont get it. Never had any issues whatsoever with any of that. I would actually feel comfortable using Bias and a power amp for a live gig if I had to.

I have a 5150 combo now for home but if I did not and had to do it all over again I would get a quilter power block and a pre amp pedal to taste. (I still want this as a backup rig on a pedalboard)

The AX8 is simply awesome. If you have that kind of money then go for it. It is a really awesome unit. No, it is not the same as a tube amp but it is killer. Better than any amp sim I have tried and if you get those FRFR monitors you will have a great sound live too. I just could not justify keeping it due to the price tag and I prefer tube amps but with money not being an object the AX8 would be my #1 choice or even an AXE-FX if it was strictly for home/studio use.

What about the Ironheart studio in your sig ?

The AX8 is amazing but a lot to spend for practice ,its more likely to be a main setup , yes it is that good IMO

The Yamaha THR10X is a great sounding portable lill amp that is perfect for jamming out on the couch

I had a thr10x a bunch of years ago and sold it like two weeks later. USB out sounds great the headphones or speakers sound crappy.

Of all my amps, the Laney gets the least use. I'm a little tired of it too. If I got the Axe/ AX8 I'd be selling the laney. For low volume stuff, its really not the greatest thing in the world.

the MG is a no, I'd take my vox over it.
I picked up the 18 watt Suhr Badger a few months back. I have never kept any amp with EL84's for long, because I don't care for the way they respond to volume roll off at the guitar, but it isn't an issue with the Badger at all. If you like Marshall, you should check one out. It is like having all the best that Marshall has offered up over the years. You can get a lot of good sounds at lower volumes, but like most amps, it sounds way better if you are moving a little air. I originally got it for my living room rig, but damn if it hasn't turned out to be one of the coolest amps I've owned. I am not a fan of series loops, so I run pedals out front, and everything sounds great. Add an Archer Rockaway, and you can cover a lot of the modded Marshall tones as well. It really takes pedals well. Some better than others, but that is the case with most any amp. Good luck with the search!

I like my new Cube 01. The lead channel is a Rectifier voicing and the clean is a JC120. Simple layout and has reverb. Crunches, thumps and sings at TV volumes.

Currently in the same situation. I'm tired of my Line 6 Flextone for practice and want something even more portable. I was thinking about trying an iPad interface with bias or amplitude but am hesitant as I didn't like the feel and latency in the past. With some research I found the Hotone micro amps that have great reviews. Found one at GC used for $60 so I thought I'd try it with my Friedman BE-OD. It sounds great. Has great feel and touch. I decided to pair it with my Tascam MP3/trainer and make a small portable practice station. The Tascam also has decent effects and can download songs and backing tracks to play along with. It sounds killer through headphones and powered monitors.

Hmmm? I have yet to try the Friedman pedal. My go-to for years has ben a Suhr Riot but your solution does make sense.

I was at this shop in MA called the Axe Palace. The shop owner said that the kemper sounds great for recording, but fractal's sound better live. I have yet to play an AX* or axe fx, but I do think the Kemper sounds better between what I've heard. more organic, less hi-fi. But I really want to play it before I buy it. I tried the Headrush at GC today and thought it sounded like rubbish- like absolute trash (played through a powered speaker and was using a Kiesel Vader).

Even small amps are loud. I played a Class 5 recently and it was great, but I had to dime each knob and it got loud. My Laney is alright, but I dunno.

I can't believe you didn't dig the Kat. Which version did you try? The head is a super practice amp to supplement your tube amps.

50 watt combo. thought it sounded super meh

Try the head into a 4x12 greenback type cab if possible
I have it into Mesa v30s & it works, but I dial the treble way down to like 9 10 oclock

I use this amp so many ways:
Internal head speaker for the quick mobile jam
Headphone out for the 5 min jam before I go to bed late night
Into 4x12 for band practice

Good luck!
