Curious. 99% of the time, I am in the man cave with a guitar strapped on and standing while I practice. Old habits I guess.

I chose some of both as well, but truth be told I do most of my practising these days at band practice (lazy and lame yeah :() which means I'm mostly standing when I practice.

When playing at home I'm always sitting though.

Mostly sitting. If I'm practicing, I'm in my music room playing along with MP3's to learn shit for cover band duties. So I'm usually rolling between the recording desk to fire-up tunes and the amps to dial-in tones...

My beer is sitting on the desk. The chair naturally rolls that direction...

Play sitting when at home. I don't play out at all since I moved to IL!!

Sitting in a more classical position, guitar up higher.

The teacher I have for the last year seems to really know his stuff. Always sit, metronome, record, review. When I get it down add whatever gymnastics I want to playing live. He calls it "adding your stage presence". Can't really argue with it. The last year helped me more than the previous 5 or 6.

Electric guitar through an amp = 100% standing. The only time I have ever sat while practicing is when I was taking classical lessons in college. I should probably get back to that... classical lessons, not college.

My initial practising to learn a song is done sat down. I'll probably be sat down until I've got the song down 80-90% then I'll stand up to practise the rest - making sure the transition required to play standing up (there is a difference) is made before completing the song. There after and during band practises it's all stood up.

:hys: why not both?!

But seriously, not such a bad idea to take up myself either.

That sounds like a great advice  !

If I'm working on a song I sit in front of the computer otherwise it's standing playing with a band or half laying in bed while watching tv leaning against the wall.

If you wear your axe higher then its a natural transition from sitting during practice to standing and playing at a show. However, I've found when I was younger and I thought it was "cool" to wear my guitar down lower that it's a bitch making that transition, especially for leads! Now I always stand when I practice and keep my guitar at a reasonable height so I can play leads without snapping my wrist.

This...I've found out too it makes a difference in positioning

usually so drunk or stoned I play laying on my back staring at the ceiling. :scared:  :aww: :cheers2: :loco:

jk. usually standing in the recording studio lately. found I was practicing sitting down too much and then it felt awkward when i played a show and had to stand.

I learn new stuff while sitting and then practice it standing up.

One of the reasons I still play an SG...and can't play a strat-style guitar...is because I used to always use a "classical guitar" posture. My left leg would be on a foot stool and the guitar would be on my left leg. This put the neck of the guitar to my far left (as a right hand player). The SG is the only guitar with a similar feel when I stand up.

When I'm just playing through songs I already know, I'll stand. When I'm focused on learning something new, I tend to sit.

homo erect-us...not that there's anything wrong w/ that...

Almost all of the time, sitting, or lounging in one of my bigass sofas, or on a chillout chair for practice.

As I still DO play flamenco/classical, I do end up in that perfect posture as well - stool, footstool, guitar.

i toy with all of them. standing, sitting, left leg/footstool thing. lately though the biggest change i've made is always having a strap on regardless of if i'm standing or not. seems like a small change, but i wear my strap relatively high so my back always ends up supporting at least some of the guitar. working well for me so far.
