My dad has some old tubes labeled on the box telefunken 12ax7. Fisher is marked on the tube. From what I read on the internet they have the little Diamond on the bottom and they are smooth plate. He had mark good on the box. Opinions of the tube anyone try these type? Marked 12ax7 shouldn't hurt trying them? Dave much appreciated help here and anyone else with experience with these tubes. Thanks for any info

If you are looking at the back of the amp, put it in the second socket from left going right. See how it sounds.. I found them to be more clear and neutral sounding, but still prefer the Tung-Sol.

Thanks HilltopExplosion I have never heard of them till now. I seen people on here changing preamp tube to change their sound I think. I guess some preamp tubes sound better then others`

I also prefer a Tung-Sol in V2. Makes the BE channel sound a little more open IMO.

RCA short plate, but the Tungsol, Chinese and JJs sound good to me too.

If you like tong souls you really should try the preffered series 7025s they freaking rock.

I think I have one in my stash. Those are a 6th gen Chinese short plate, right?

I think there Ming Dynasty , while on my bare footed track through the Himalaya in search of tonal nirvana I came across an old monk who gave me this magic bean. Once coupled with Jan get 5751 he told me to spread my message far and wide. Yes they are xhinese

where i can get those?

I get them from the tubestore. There really good. Usually get a bunch every year. In fact Friday the new batch with be here.

Just my opinion but try that in v1 and a ehay7 or a Jan ge 5751 in v2 Ive found that combo to be very tasty.

I have tried several NOS tubes along with new production and have found that I always end up going back to the Ruby 12ax7 HGs and HG+'s. They tend to open up the BE100 the best I think. But most all the NOS tubes including Mullards sound great as well.

I am not sure about the BE100, but I am running an RFT 12ax7 in V1 of my Small Box and Tung Sol 12ax7's in the other two spots and it sounds awesome on both the BE and Plexi channels.

I Dont like Telefunkens in Marshall style amps.
I have 4 NOS Telefunken smooth plate ECC83s and they have lots of headroom, and sounds a little too clean and sterile for me.
They are great for HI-FI systems though.

RFT ECC83's would be my top choice for these these types of amps.

RCA 7025 in v1
HG+ in v2
Prefered Series in v3 &4
Tried a JAN 5751 in v2 and was pleasantly surprised.

Just for clarity and folks know what they are changing...

V1 runs HBE and Clean
V2 runs BE

If you change V1 and BE sounds the same, it should and vice verse...

Maybe Dave can confirm.

My understanding is that v1 is the second preamp tube in line from left to right.
V2 is the first tube.
I agree with rgorke as to their function.
