what preamp tubes do you guys recommend for an apc modded marshall/naked?

either. just wondering what sounds the best in that head

What I have found with my Friedman goes true for most Marshalls as far as the preamp tubes go. My favorite in just about any amp I have had are the old Tesla E83CC silver pins, and the Siemens E83CC triple mica. The damn things last for years and sound incredible in just about any amp I have used them in. That's what is in my JMP. I have tried just about all of the old tubes. I used to collect them. Below was the rarest I ever had. I sold that quad for 800 bucks. They were unused and even had the same flashing patters. All same XF2 Amperex DD getters. These were my favorite EL34. The old Tesla Brown bases are great for guitar also. The only Mullard I liked for guitar were the chocalate brown base XF2 single getters. The double getters were too high Fi. I have a quad of unused original Tung Sol 6550 and GE 6550 I am going to be trying out in my Marshall.

my amp tech just put in groove tubes and jj's.... so far i'm not impressed
the power amp tubes are electro harmonix which sound pretty good though

JJ's are not good IMO in a JMP. You are better off with a Tung Sol in V1. Does the Naked have V2 as a cathode follower? If so, use a Ruby(Chinese). The CF puts more voltage on that tube that several types cannot handle. V3 Electro Harmonix. Groove Tube 12ax7 Sag for a Phase inverter. New Mullard reissue is good also for a PI. For the EL34 I would go with Winged C.

They'll work out. Make sure the Teslas have the dual support getter posts. There are allot of fake rebranded JJ's. The tubes almost look identical. Their are a few way to tell them apart. The getter is the easiest. The tube sounds nothing like a JJ. The one's I listed above are the very rare long plates. They are very nice but I prefer the frame grid e83cc. I just scored a quad of 100% unused original Tung-Soll 6550. I'm afraid to use them they are so mint. Which Siemens did you score. There are allot of different styles. My favorite is the triple mica. My next runner up to these is the Mazda French grey plate. Here's some pics. I have a quad of the Tung-Sols and GE's. Mint brand new NOS. Tough to find them in this condition
