This has got to be edited. There is no way a Mesa Cab sounds like that. That sounded worse that a Line 6 amp. Another youtube

Below is why.

For me it's informative to a point, but I would dial in the amp and change mic placement on each IR to get the tone I want out of each cab. I mean if you change cabs with your head you probably dial it in a little differently to compensate/enhance what you like. So some of these might sound a lot better if dialed in individually. (I understand why they're not, but it really skews whether or not some of these IRs would work for you.)

Anyone who has played longer than a week will know you simply can't use the same amp and settings and just change cabs to judge the cabs. Not only do you need to find a cab with the characteristics that enhance the amp in use, you need to take into consderation the subjectiveness of the tonal goal, musical style, etc.
Example: a lot of comments that the Splawns sound bad, but with a different audio source (amp) and a different riff/style they would sound much different... ;)

Exactly right. Had he dialed in each one to his taste, he would've had a lot more similar sounding clips...which wasn't the point.

I liked the Marshall & Mesa best. It's also 1 more thing that confirms my general distaste for eminence speakers. I had Govs(yes I broke them in) in a Splawn and didn't love it, put in V30's and loved the cab.

I thought the point was to compare cab IRs. But if you dial in for one and not the others it really isn't a very useful comparison. The only point that would make sense with this is, "if you play this style of music, with this particular tone, this is how it sounds with these different IRs recored with ? mics at ? distance/angle. Which really isn't much of a point.

I use IRs a lot and these are very important factors and if you don't include/consider them you might dismiss a very good IR that could work well for you. ;)

Is it my PC speakers or do these cab demos lack lowend. Sounds like all preamp gain, no power amp pushing thickness or cab resonance happening.

Surprised at the Ampeg...sounded killer...digging the Mesa too. The Orange was too dark for my taste, and I own one, and love mine. The Marshall was good too, and the Disesel sounded sick as well. I actually thought the Splawn with the Eminence Gov's sounded good too...a little buzzy, but had nice high end cut.

FWIW I liked the Diezel and Ampeg. The Diezel didn't have as much low end but the mids sounded really well defined with the riff played. The Krank w/Texas Heats was a nice surprise, though it lacked some mids I liked the low end and overall tone. Any chance a video with the same cabs donig leads could be done?

The Marshall sounded pretty good. Mesa and Diezel were pretty good as well. I was surprised how much I liked the ampeg as well.

Diezel, Marshall and Orange for me. Diezel had the best clarity and midds, Marshall sounded very familiar and balanced. Orange sounded well balanced too, but lack the character the first two had. Mesa is close, Hiwatt would be the last. There was something wrong with Splawn IRs. Splawn cabs sound similar to Marshall and would never be that thin.

To the OP, thanks for taking the time to post these

I'm still oldschool and feel that there's a lot lost or not effectively reproduced in the realm of virtual cabs etc. Sure, it was different to hear them all, but this was a virtual take - not like sticking a couple SM57s in front of a dozen different cabs and going from there.

For what it's worth, the Diezel sounded great, but a bit loose compared to the read deal.

Thanks!
