I'm thinking of selling the CAA and keeping the Naylor. The Naylor is far from perfect but every time I plug into it I find myself just wailing away the time...

I knew you wouldn't keep that amp! LOL! :D

I was surprised that you were really digging that amp, seemed a far departure for you considering your marshall / budda love.

The obvious answer is to keep both. But I can't think of once in my life where I've owned more than one amp (I think I topped out at 5 once) and actually played more than one on a regular basis.

Gahhh...

It really isn't a departure at all. The drive side is old school marshall all the way. But the Naylor has that compressed, squishy easy-to-play LA sound thing happening (or blanket-over-the-speakers effect depending on your perspective), and the best master volume ever. The CAA punches you in the face and likes to have a little more volume behind it. The master is still good but not as good. Cleans are no contest of course.

Hmm...

I should let my wife pick (without telling her prices :D ) and then sell the loser and disconnect my 'net access permanently.

Nothing wrong with revolving amps once in a while if you are buying them used and as long as you don't get carried away.

I say you'll end up with a Budda (for the 5th time) again one day soon. :D

As a former SD-60 owner I can relate. Naylors really have a unique thing going on.

IMO though, you should sell both and get a Carol Ann 0D2-100. It takes the Naylor thing to a whole other level. It's very similar in most ways - ultra thick Marshallish tone and great MV, but it's not quite as compressed, which is a good thing I think. With the Naylor I always felt like I was hitting a wall where it just got too compressed. I could never get it to open up enough, and boosts didn't help. The CA still stays somewhat open despite its massive girth, which is very cool. Plus it has a great clean channel and a footswitchable gain boost.

Worth looking into...

But at over twice the price? I don't know if I could bring myself to spend 3k on an amp....

I am at three amps right now that give me three different tones. I have no interest in buying anything new but I fight the idea of selling one. The smart thing to do would be keep all three and play the one that fits my current mood. The reality is I feel weird having an amp that sits there untouched for periods of time. So I think I know exactly how you feel. Even when I am in the mood to play one of the other amps, there is usually one amp that I still go to playing most of the time. Is it worth having $$$ tied up for the few times I want the other amp. So I sell the amps and find myself buying something else or the same thing again down the road to fit that desire. The three amps I have right now I have owned each one in the past so I returned to the same three amps I owned liked and sold. When push comes to shove I think most of us have lost our minds, if I had one to begin with.

Thank you for understanding. :D

The toughest decisions for me are when I am trying to a/b two pieces of gear that I know I could live with, which I think is the case here. When one is clearly not cutting it for me, then it's easy and I have no problem moving on.

I've done that. I have 3 amps at the moment and absolutely no amp GAS. I do end up playing the latest acquisition more than the ones I've had for a while... occasionally, I have an impulse to sell the ones that are sitting around, but then I realize it would be a mistake.

That is why I am going to try to keep these three this time. If I really bothers me I might hide one in the closet so I am not looking at it maybe that will work

Well I keep one cab and one amp at my practice space and rotate that around so that works for one amp. Its really nice to just grab my guitar and pedal board for practice. I only bring an amp with me if I swap them out. The other cab at home has the 2 amps sitting on it and that when I notice one amp sitting there for awhile. I was joking about the closet but it might actually work. If I kept one amp in the closet for a month or two and rotated my home amp and practice space amp. Then every few months switch the closet amp in the mix. It will be like buying a new amp. Hell I could even box it up and leave it on porch while I run to the gas station and come home and pretend I got it in the mail..... :scared: Ya I was right I never had a mind to begin with :D
