Sadly, I'm considering selling my beloved Jackson strat. This was custom ordered in 1986, and I've had it ever since.

I saw a similar item on ebay for $5000, there is a 80's Charvel here for $3500, and new one's are $2100. I'm not sure what these are worth. This was ordered as a Charvel, but Grover Jackson decided he wanted to start putting his name on the guitars.

Alder body
Unfinished maple neck
Ebony fretboard
Floyd Rose

Any useful advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Honestly its like a 1000-1200 dollar guitar tops. I know someone is asking 5k on Ebay but that does not mean anything. That 80's Charvel you see in the classifieds is my friends and the reason it's 3500 is because of the lawsuit Fender headstock and it was made in the San Dimas factory in 83. By mid 86 the production of Jackson/Charvel had been moved out of San Dimas but up until 89 they had used neck plates that say San Dimas.

This is about right, depending on the condition. It has a sub 1500 serial number, which is desirable among the guys that chase these--supposedly these were still made at the original CA shop with san dimas parts and quality is known to be top notch. The Floyd adds some extra value too.

Nice guitar.

Thanks for the input, and the "beautiful" comment is appreciated.

gc has a real early san dimas jackson for 700 used right now...

The problem with these guitars is that people that hunt them down are HUGE fans and will pay $$$ for the right one.

I would throw it on eBay for $1500 OBO.

They were pretty expensive new from memory, insanely expensive actually.

There's no way that guitar is going to sell to anyone for $2500. I'm not saying it's a bad guitar, just that Jacksons that are non graphic and non sharkfin are around 1200 used guitars tops.

I tried to sell a pretty rare san dimas Jackson strat - floyd rose, pointy headstock, but it had a factory strat pickguard which is a pretty rare option. Unfortunately rare doesn't always mean more valuable. ;( I ended up keeping it. I also have a black one HB strat guitar like yours here except it has black instead of gold hardware - couldn't get any bites at $800.

Unless you need the money, I'd keep it... no matter what it's worth, I would wager it's as good or better than what's coming out of the USA Jackson factory these days.

Oh, and back in the day - ALL Jacksons were custom orders.

Those Shark Fins' were crazy priced too!

Whoever said $1000-$1200 is spot on...that's exactly what these go for. Strathead Charvels bring more $$$ as they are more rare and they have enough of a following to kick that supply/demand dynamic into high gear. That said, even those prices have plummeted in recent years...there's little chance that the one in the classifieds will bring $3500 being plain white. In '06-'07 it would have been a slam dunk, these days I'd guess about a grand lower.

You get the value via a few things....year, condition, originality and most important, is it a charvel or is it a Jackson. Early charvels draw the $$ in. We all know that by now...
If you want to find the value on ebay you have to find a nearly identical item sale....model, year, originality etc etc.
In short, i have seen SD jacksons like your sell for between $900 and $1900 on ebay. You never know, it only takes ONE buyer.
good luck either way!
