I think that unless it's a newer head/cab that may be a little high. I sold my old UL (2008) for like $1400. It was in great shape. But also, that was during a pretty good slump in the market. I'd say $1600-1800 for the head and $500-600 for the cab (resale is horrible on these, so nobody likes to sell 'em, but also, they are a killer cabinet).

I could be wait out of line but I thought they went about $1600 used

Cab is worth about $4-500 on CL. Depends on the age of the amp really. Mine is was built in Dec. 2011 - which is basically about the last time the UL was a part of regular production. I've seen older VHT branded amps go for $1,500-$1600 range. There have been changes over the years that I think impacted the tone. I can't say what the changes were, just based on experience in owning them (I've had 3). When I sell mine, it will be for over $2k (it's actually promised to a buddy as a part of a package of things). I'd sell it for more to someone else but I got the amp from him - so he'd getting it back at a better price. I think a later model is worth more partly because you really can't get a new build anymore unless you custom order it - which would be close to $4k. Anything less, I'd just keep it.

None of those. There have been 2 revisions to the circuit since those were made.

The second one judging from the repair bill from Fryette had some major issues based on what they replaced and it's been modified. Offer $1300.00... not a cent more.

They all seem to be from the same era. According to the info on the Fryette forum, most of the revisions happened during the 90's and it has been pretty much the same since mid-1997.

Kinda like that forum... that looks like it's been dead since 1997 as well.

just called Fryette...no answer. thats not good service. Im losing interest.

My friend had great things to say about their customer service. They're a small shop thats getting slammed.

I've played a newer UL and it was freaking amazing. Not going to bother explaining the tone besides that it has this mean growl to it if you adjust the low and low mids eq just right and it sounds mean and tight. I almost had one but thank fed ex for destroying it.

Edit: don't get the version without onward 5 band eq. Price should be around 1500 for one in good condition. If you get the cab, make sure it has the p-50 speakers it was designed around.

I sold my UL for 1500. My experience with customer service was also not very good never had my email or phone call responded to. I did love that amp though and wouldn't mind another.

I bought three of them for 1500-1600 each.

I would love to hear what you think of the ultralead.

Just email them. I sent an email asking about tube compatability and got a response the next day. This was last month.

This is very accurate IMO. Seller is asking too much but you might have to wait it out for a good deal.

The first runs are "different". In my opinion Reza do not get the old version, the newer is better.

The differences are that the board revisions but also the old models had a KT88/6l6 bias switch, plastic logo but more importantly a 12au7 Phase Inverter.

Do not get the one with 12au7.

Here is some info about them from when I got mine.
http://www.fryette-users.com/forums/sho ... help/page3

I sold mine for $1,400 at a fairly decent profit but I think I got lucky but on average $1,500 - $1,600 for the newer UL's.

Could also consider a Soldano Avenger?

Edit - to do it over again I would get another 100CL over an Ultra Lead but that is just me. Probably the meanest and most disgustingly brutal amp I have owned with the right tubes/settings.

Regarding their service, yeah it is a small shop and they are hard to reach sometimes but I have had nothing less than amazing service from Fryette.

Last I heard Fryette is four people including Steve. They rarely answer the phone because they are working. Dave (Support) is doing a lot more than customer relations.
As stated above the UL and CLX has not changed much in the last ten years. If you prefer a newer or older one it is going to be taste. They all sound good. I prefer the new ones.

i have a 2003 model and i just love that amp. Super brutal on the red, if you want and the crunch channel is just amazing. Cleans are also stelar.

I could of sent it in to Fryette for the last update they did in 2008, i think, but opted not to, i just dont want it changed!!!!! It is amazing.

I sold mine for $1800 on these forums around 3 years ago. It was a 2011 model in pretty much mint condition though. I wouldn't pay more than $1800 if I had $1800 to spare right now. Ended up preferring the Sig X anyways overall.

Just be sure you getta 6 preamp tube configuration... think they did a change back then offering 5 preamp without an AT7 or AU7 but people then wanted the punch that the UL used to have and its been changed back with the AT or AU7 preamp...

Priced too high.

I get a response within 24 hours any time I email them.

Sold mine for 2200 on ebay a couple of years ago, but I think I got lucky. Was a 2006 version I think. They are worth it.

Reza if you are still following this, this info ties into what I was saying. I could have been wrong about the name of the P.I.

I can't remember which version had which but at the end of the day, you will want to get the newer version. They may have changed the specs a few times but anything after 1998 I think you should be fine. Just do not get one of the first runs. IMO it does not sound as good and I find with the amps and style you have that you would agree.
