I don't know pretty elaborate hoax.
Kirk is on twitter complaining and is annoyed and has posted pictures of the crack and missing tuning pegs.

like others have said if is not your instrument and was not agreed to as part of the performance , He is an ass and not cool.

In addition who knows the sentimental value.

I have a guitar my grandmother bought me when I was 21 ,
Its a Robin Medley .my grandmother passed away and Robin closed in 2010.

If someone broke that its irreplaceable to me for another guitar or 10,000
 
And guys, don't dog Kirk Douglas. The dude can flat out play and sing. And, for that matter, I highly recommend seeing The Roots live. Even if you're not into hip hop, the group has an energy and every guy in that band can rip. It's crazy to say, but ?uestlove may be the weakest musician of the bunch.
 
I dunno, Prince isn't Kirk Hammett, so this is to me, pretty inexcusable and lame.

I saw a lot of splash and showmanship on these vids, as well as a lot of ego, fanfare, attitude and arrogance. So it was a prick move and in my opinion, super lame. I hope he's got the decency to buy the dude a brand new replacement epi guitar and also add $10,000 to the bill as Prince sure as shit received more than $10,000 publicity for being on the show. It's all relative, so pony up and be a good guy.

Prince is an awesome musician but he should be made to pay for that guitar.
