Pro Tools Digi 03 Rack

I've used a 002 rack system for 2 years, the problems that I ran into have been latency issues due to PT's platform for running stuff in the plug-in menu. I also do not like the way the converters sound in PT, I've heard some other stuff that sounded way better, and did not cost any more money. I'm stuck with it till somthing blows up

It's funny last night I "lost connection to interface" twice. I shoulda went with Logic, but I wanted the industry standard. I found Cubase to be much more user friendly. I understand that folks love PT and it works well for a lot of people that have the time to learn the workflow, etc. However I have had nothing but hassles with it.
Nothing can cause problems with my Mac like that damn Digi driver. I was so sick of the fail to keep up with O/S updates. I wnated to use my Mac and it took forever for PT to be compliant with Leopard...piss me off.

ProTools is great, I've had great luck with the digi 003. You need to read the fine print though. Check all the known incompatibilities, make sure your OS is compatible etc...

My thoughts exactly. Looking around online at another system now. Shit, there are so many choices on the hardware side - depending on what one wants to spend. From what I have read Cubase and Nuendo seem the way I may go. Wish I has the $1500 I spent on this steaming pile of pony loaf.

Maybe a new thread on recording set-ups is appropriate. I definitely need some help and ideas here.

PT isn't cheap at all, too expensive specially for HD, but having pushed it day in and day out, it is quick reliable, a workhorse, when setup and used properly, and I don't mind the steamline of hardware software, have had very very little issues in that regard, but sometimes issues come up, and it may not be exactly digi's fault you know. Computer system's are always a fighting to get compadible thing. I know that older macs, the interface prefers the front firewire inputs

I think there is bound to be issues with ANY daw, as OS updates, versions and releases all get in the way. PT 8 is amazing, and they really added some nice featueres, plug ins, and instruments that are usable. The 002 interface's AD/DA wasn't the best, which is why I used a better one going in, but I get pretty good results imo using it. Really its just a matter of taste, I am so used to PT, and have had such good luck with it, I don't even want to think about switching.

but some people really prefer others, just have to read the fine print as well as far as what interfaces/OS will work with what. I know logic just came out with a new version that is supposed to be great. My buddy runs Digital performer and that is pretty sweet as well, I like the layout more then logic. do not like audio tasks in logic.

getting used to nuendo is a little interesting.

I've use pro tools for 4 years personally and the studio I work with uses
Nuendo, with the Tascam fw1884 a pair of them actually.

for DAW i'd go MOTU, or presonus if you wern't to go Protools
or tascam if you don't need mic pre's

PTs a bit of a picky bitch, it adopts one connecter on your computer and wont work right in any other slot.

I still prefer PT as i can hear the width of everything i record more then anything else. but its not all that easy to work with.

Which MOTU? The 896mk3? Looks like a great unit. Lots of good reviews on it and I keep seeing it pop up here from time to time. The Traveler looks mighty handy too!
