LEave it with no pickgaurd or partial pickguard frankenstrat syle. I concur about the HS-3 malmsteen pups. Not enough meat or gain for me. No wondeer he gooses the DOD OD's into the amp. Those OD's sound too flubby with a lot of humbuckers for a reason. Perfect with single coil though.

Doing the Frankenstein treatment would have cost me more money that I wanted to invest in this project, so I simply put a BBQ Bucker in the bridge, and went for 1 Vol & 1 Tone - so knob is no longer in the way of picking hand. Standard 5 way switch has all the flavors you'll need. Guitar plays amazingly well, not just for price point but for any guitar. Now the bad news - played an EBMM Morse Dark Lord, and got a deal I couldn't pass up, so I will be selling this ESP/LTD to help pay for that.
