Problem with Herbert - crackling noise with MIDI

I know there was a thread about this a while ago, but I can't find it with the search. I'm running some older digitech rack stuff (2112/2120) with my Herbert and a Behringer FCB1010 foot controller. Anytime I use one of the expression pedal on the FCB1010 I get a real quiet crackling sound through the Herbert. I believe the midi chain is behringer -> diezel -> digitech. Is there a fix for this?

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I run the behringer off the herbert so I can feed it phantom power. I don't think I've ever tried it the other way round. Will see if that helps.
