ProCo Rat vs. ProCo Rat V2

I was just about to order a Rat to run into the front of my Marshall for 90's DM tones and/or other Rat tones like that. Then I noticed it was considered a Rat 2. I thought there were only a Rat and a Turbo Rat. What's the deal with the Rat 2? Given what I want, would I be better off finding an original Rat? Or better yet, building one?

No idea, a lot of people tend to look for the older pro co rats.
they really don't sound that much different then the newer ones.

I have a love hate relationship with the Rat.
Sounds great but gets really noisy at certain settings.

Looks like people on other forums are saying one of either two things: "oi m8, same fookin pedal" or "aye, iss fokken China shite m8, wouldn't touch it wit ur muthr's arse"

Maybe I should look on audio forums that aren't Scotland based... Either way, it seems like they're close enough, and hell I'm capable of sourcing parts and using a soldering iron. $70 for something in a RAT enclosure and close enough to a RAT to be modded to vintage specs is not bad at all.
