Who's to say you couldn't try a guy for one song? Someone who understands Lynch and Red Fang

You are going for a big sound, without a label. Don't blow the budget with one guy on 12 tunes, to find out he's a bad match. Perhaps an EP?

Check out some of your fav bands out of TX, just before they hit it. Start there.

... unless all your favorite albums were independently recorded.... :dunno:

Actually that is a great Idea. We've talked about doing a cheaper recording locally for "pre pro", and looking for the right guy after that. I think 1 song with someone to see how they fit would be great.. I know my last studio project tanked about 15 grand on a record that no one really liked the tone of. The guy was a great pop rock engineer/producer.. not so much a metal/hard rock guy.

Thanks for the suggestion

Also, Red fang and lynch are fucking sweet.. just don't want to go for that sound is all.

That's a ton of money for a record nowadays. I released 5 records with different projects last year and all of them combined including vinyl didn't approach 1/10 of what you spent recording one record.

Im not necessarily criticizing the idea of using a producer in general. I think the idea of going in to record without finished songs and expecting to have a productive experience with a stranger right off the bat is fraught with risk. The tones and mood of a record are totally an engineering thing. The producer would just be telling the engineer to do things he would be able to and would know to do already.

What is the goal for this record? Is it a hobby project or are you getting in the van when its done and touring on it for a year?
