between stuff like this and how they "pack" used items to ship, i sometimes think there is an organized effort by their employees to sabotage the company.

its uncanny - the ignorance to the specs on products they have in stock to just complete lack of common sense.

there is a beat up LP Studio Mahogany at my local GC. im looking at it, and its overpriced. also the prev owner had turned the pup selector so it was selecting side to side instead of up and down. sales kid comes up and says "pretty cool mod huh". what mod? "how he changed out the selector" uh thats not a mod man, the nut is loose you want me to fix it? "what? no we cant let you mod the guitar" ....... here kid, put it back...

How in the hell do you work in a guitar shop and not understand how nuts n bolts work as it pertains to basic tenets of construction? of a selector switch ffs

last time i went to GC was for some drum stuff. there was an attractive young lady working who i was kind of excited to discuss snares with who was helping someone else. apparently the guy wanted a double pedal but she brought out a single pedal, he was trying to explain to her the difference and she had no clue, she didnt even play drums. i guess any sort of musical knowledge is unnecessary to work there

Turn the switch upside down and tell him there’s a bridge pup in the neck position, and vice versa. That’ll melt his brain.

I don’t think it’s really an “organized” or deliberate effort from the employees to make GC look bad. GC needs to have better leadership and standards themselves, they hire and keep these people on board. I highly doubt the company goes out of their way to make sure their employees are taught how to properly pack an amp or a guitar (or photograph them and create a proper description in this instance).

That’s the norm for guitar center. Not the least bit surprised. I am actually surprised that it’s not upside down as well, and picture the guy taking the picture scratching his head in bewilderment as to what is wrong.

oh i know im being silly saying "organized".

its just so pathetic that there isnt like 2 days of orientation basics for these kids that work at GC. how to pack something, how to photo something, what are collectors looking for, here is how to break down the controls on a strat and les paul. yada yada.

ive received TWO different damaged amps and one WRONG guitar since covid. in all three cases the box was way too big for the item, in one case not an appropriate strength cardboard for an amp, and that amp and the acoustic guitar used sheets of brown packing paper as the sole padding for the loose items. no bubble wrap, no secondsry cardboard.

i know some of these kids couldnt care less but the store managers should have a bigger hand in this stuff,

That's wild, sorry you had to go through all that stuff. Not just negligent, but totally no common sense either on their end.

I've only ordered something from GC twice: a used Marshall 1960BV about 5-6 years ago and a brand new, Fryette FatBottom 4x12 that I've had for a few weeks now - that came pretty much straight from Fryette after being on backorder for a while. Thankfully the Marshall cab was packaged well enough by them; can't imagine what it would be like ordering one now though.
