One of the owners of Atomic Music called me yesterday and told me I had to come down and see a guitar they got in. The previous owner sold them what is purported to be a prototype guitar for EVH after he left Peavey. It is a one hum PRS with a Floyd. It also has EVH's autograph on it. I laughed at the idea and went to check it out anyway. It is a pretty cool guitar, but the autograph is on the face near the volume knob. I know how hard it can be to get rid of guitars with autographs.

The guitar has a 30 day hold since it did not come with a receipt (law in certain MD counties). So, I left w/o putting a deposit on it.

Later I found a thread about it (see below - it's the red guitar) and figured that it MIGHT be what the previous owner said it is. So, I bought it.

So, I either have a very collectible piece or a funky PRS that I can't play out in public or be able to sell.

Serial # is 7 SA00455. The EVH autograph was dated '04.

unless you get documentation and such you have an interesting guitar with a story. Hard to move pieces like that. Im a huge ed head and probably would have passed on that even for a great price....

That sunburst one is badass! I'd buy one in a heart beat. Which one did you end up with?

I remember seeing pics of those back in the day - pretty damn cool IMO...

I dig the red one, looks like a swamp ash body. Pretty cool as a PRS collector's item IMO. Why don't you email PRS customer service and get any details you can? The serial # throws me off a bit, as it would be built in 1998 maybe? The 7 is what is weird. Scroll down to swamp ash models. http://www.prsguitars.com/csc/year.html

I'd email PRS with detailed photos and see what they say. Let us know what they say.

The red Swamp Ash Special. I'll post pics once I get it (about 25 days).

Great ideas, bro. I may even take it to PRS since the factory is only about 30 minutes from me.

Even better! PRS would hate me if I lived 30 min away. I'd probably move into the factory :D

So, here is the update.

I made an appt. to take it to the PRS factory to have them verify that it was a legit PRS and that it was a Prototype.

When I got there, one of the PRS techs who actually worked on the guitar recognized it immediately and said that it was made for the EVH team. He doesn't think that EVH ever got to see the guitar though. Just by chance, Paul Reed Smith walked by, looked at the guitar and said "Is that the guitar we made for Eddie?"

Needless to say, the guitar was easy to sell after I got verification. :2thumbsup:

So, here is a link to the eBay auction with pics. BTW, the guy that bought the guitar is going to have EVH's autograph removed.

Looks sweet. They should put a single slant hum guitar in the lineup.
